Winterizing

I am sure this has been discussed many times before, but I did not find any newer post.

How does everyone winterize? I am from Wisconsin so I understand winter, but I have lived in SC for the last 15 years so winterizing was not much. I am back in Wisconsin's winter wonderland so I am wondering how everyone winterizes? I have blown out the line, flushed and drained the tanks well and put in the RV antifreeze in the drains. But wonder who also pumps the water lines with RV antifreeze. I have read that people are concerned with the residue in the spring.

Second, how does everyone drain the ice maker lines? Hard to get to but important!

Just for giggles, I thought about pumping some moon shine in the lines - I will guarantee that it will not freeze, but the Monty might wobble going down the road.

I used to do the "pink stuff" but the past few years have gone to blowing out the lines ... only adding antifreeze to the PTraps. If you run the air long enough to where you don't see any water drops coming out the faucets ... you'll have no issue. Even if a few drops of water is left behind the PEX tubing is fairly forgiving, I've not had any issue in Kansas winters down around zero to single digits. Just be sure and blow out the black tank sprayer line and the line that power fills your fresh water tank. A little shot of air in the antifreeze suction line with the 12VDC fresh water pump running will remove water from it. I can't answer that best way to do the ice maker line on your fridge ... I prefer the old gas absorbtion ones. That all being said ... some use both air and "pink stuff" for personal preference.

We have always winterized with the pink stuff, primarily since we have a washer and a dishwasher which cannot be winterized with air. No help on the ice maker.

I hook up a small compressor set to about 50 pounds and leave it hooked up for several weeks and every time I go by the camper I blow out the lines. I blow up the hot water heater too.
KOLCB has a much better idea, go south young man go south.

When we wintered in Kansas I did as Deisel Guy with no trouble as long as you remember to blow out the washer dryer connections and run some pink in the washer if you have one.

I'm just wondering why you blow up the hot water heater? That's a good one. Ha Ha

I'm afraid the water will cool enough in the winter to freeze, ha ha. I inflate the tank after it's been drained to add more volume to the compressor, but really no real reason except I just do it that way.

I blow out the hot water tank also. I pull out the anode rod, let all the water drain on its own and then plug in the air compressor set at 40-45 pounds the let it blow out the tank drain hole. I stand there and every so often put my thumb over the hole for a couple of seconds and it's surprising how much more water you get to come out of the tank because like the black and gray tanks you cannot empty all of the water out of the hot water heater tank when draining. After I've done this about 5-6 times I shut the air off replace the anode rod and it is all ready for it's winter nap until I awaken the unit to head South in January. If there is any water in the tank and it freezes it will not be enough to damage the tank from expanding in it.

Thanks folks. I appreciate the comments.

I liked South Carolina, but the grandkids have a strange draw!

I just did mine last week. Drained the water heater, blew out all the lines, poured the pink stuff into the sink traps, and it's done.
