AC PROBLEM
Can someone help settle an argument? When I turn on the AC, only the fan comes on, not the compressor. I think the compressor is out. My husband says it could be the thermostat. I don't believe anything would come on if it was the thermostat. HELP!

It does have a long time delay before the compressor kicks in, try turning the thermostat to 60 or the lowest setting.
It could be either one, so you both win! :0

I know mine takes quite a while after the fan starts for the compressor to start. Maybe even 3-5 minutes. Both AC's act the same. A few times I thought there was a problem but it turns out I'm a little impatent, or so I'm told....

I turned it down as low as it would go. Left it on for 30 minutes; fan only came on. And it was on AC.

Angela, it is probably in the thermostat, or the solid-state control module. It could very well be the compressor, but at this point it needs to be checked out by a service tech. Good luck with the outcome.
I do this A/C work for a living... 6 months out of the year

One more thing to try:
Pull the 12 volt fuse to the furnace, then switch off the breaker to the A/C unit. Wait 3 or 4 minutes, then plug in the fuse, re-insert it, and turn the breaker back on the the A/C unit.
This will reset the electronic control package.
Let us know.. and good luck.

Thanks OZZ; I tried it, but it the compressor still doesn't come on. Good suggestion though before calling a service person. We'll do that today and let you know the outcome.
