Rain and Surge Protector

First rain coming with progressive surge protector and wondering if it needs to be protected from moisture. the connection to the 50 amp cord hangs below the metal covers on the power pedestals. Thanks,

I have been using mine for more than two years and have not had any problems from the elements where the surge protector connects to the 50 amp power cord hanging below the power box.

It should be rainproof. It was great to meet both of you.

We have used ours in the great Pacific NW (and you know the rain we have in the Seattle area) for three years now without issue.

Jim - hope you made it to the rally okay. We enjoyed meeting you too. We survived the storm. We are in Luray, Virginia. Thanks to all for the "rain" advice. I never thought about the surge protector before rain was forecast!

Just don't let it lay on the ground in a puddle of water.

X2 This seems like it couldn't be a problem, but when you have to use a dog bone because 50 amp isn't available you may have the EMS on the ground. I then put something under it. Ours has been thru a 4" rain all in one afternoon and didn't have an issue.

Yes, protection is recommended. Our Progressive box failed because of moisture after a couple of months. Progressive repaired on their dime under warranty, and I got a note from them indicating that moisture was the problem, that the unit was weather resistant, not weatherproof, and they included a plastic cover (like a heavy transparent packaging bag) to use in the rain.

When I had one, I wrapped an old tire cover around it and the post. That not only kept it dry, but kept it out of sight.

Never had a problem either we also live in the Seattle area and I was worried about the rain getting into it so I just put some dielectric grease on the prongs and never had a problem......(YET)
