08 ford super duty pricing

This link has some pricing info on the new Fords. According to this article, base price for the 2008's is less than for the 2007's. That will help (a little) offset the $6895 for the diesel. The Lariat base price also includes as standard what last year cost an addiitonal $545 in options. See the article for more info.

I can't vouch for the accuracy of the info. I'm just reporting it.

I did notice that...The X plan price quoted me for the 08 SD same as my 05 but with the 6.4L was less than 3K more money and there were some extra add ons for the Diesel like block heater, dual alternators ect.

I just went out this afternoon and picked up information on the F-450. My initial reaction was that it is a "nasty" machine and the likely choice for those of us considering a step up to a fifth wheel designed specifically for full-timing. I was also pleased to note that the MSRP including all the bells and whistles that we would want, various dealer charges, and sales taxes is almost exactly what I had anticipated. I wonder if the fuel economy will be similar to what one gets with a diesel pusher?

Bill,
I hope that new F450 gets better fuel mileage than most Class A diesel pushers when towing a load. A buddy of mine averages 9.6mpg with his Magna 45' quad slide Country Coach even with towing a Chevy Tahoe behind.

Hi, Dave ...

No matter where you look, the issue of fuel efficiency is one of the big issues with all the "built for full-timing" options. Alfa has gone to the Mercedes-Benz diesel in their See Ya motor home because it is 10 - 20 percent more fuel efficient than either the Cummins or the Cat. The F-450 has a GVWR of 14,500 (which you need with a pin weight in the 3,700 lb - 4,500 lb range) and a GCWR of 33,000 only with the fuel guzzling 4.88 rear axle ratio. Unfortunately, that is the GCWR you need if you are going to haul a 5er in the 17,000 - 18,000 GVWR range. If you go to the 4.30 axle ratio, the GCWR drops to 29,000 lbs and the capacity to tow the big 5er with the big pin weight (while staying within the weight ratings of the truck) disappears. (Note: see below. This calculation is incorrect.)

Traveling extensively as a full-timer, in a "built for full-time" rig, is not an inexpensive lifestyle.

Bill

29,000 GCWR, that would handle what, only about 20,000 pounds of trailer? Nearly all fulltiming trailers are less than that. Those I've seen. And there is the 33,000 gcwr for even bigger trailers. I agree going with anything that big will not be cheap. You made a good point there. I am glad to see Ford comes out with a pickup that can handle those big weights. I bet before too many years the others will catch up. Better for all of us.

Home - you are correct. I failed to subtract the pin weight. Makes me feel better. Now I can consider one of those fuel efficient 4.30 rear axle ratios! LOL.

Like one of the guys on the RV Forum likes to say..."If you want a big trailer, you need a big truck; want a smaller truck, get a smaller trailer."

You can now build and price the 08 Ford SD trucks on the FOMOCO web site.
