try using the synthic blend fluid i used it and it helps with temps. Mercon v i think it was. Also banks has a trans command that builds the pressure up and makes the trans shift better without the car like shifting.
Pud2;

Been doing quite a bit of reading on thedieselstop.com forums about Mercon V causing problems in Ford Trannys not specifically designed for it. I had some doubts so I did a little research in my owners manual, and sure enough, Ford warns against using Mercon V or the dual rated Mercon/Mercon V in transmissions not specifically designed for Mercon V. They state that Mercon and Mercon V are NOT compatible and it will cause long term problems. Ford recommends straight Mercon or Dexron III/Mercon.

Not trying to start an argument here, just passing along the information.

I think one thing that may be confusing people is that with GM's Dexron fluid the next Dexron formula has always been compatible with the previous Dexron formulation. That means it is OK to run Dexron III in an older tranny that was designed for Dexron or Dexron II. Not so with the Fords tranny fluids however.

Apparently there are even Ford garages that are unaware that the two types of Mercon are not compatible.

Just a FYI

Gary

I missed the earlier question. The probe on my aftermarket tranny temp gauge is in the line from the transmission to the cooler and is just a few inches from the transmission. That is where the hottest fluid temps will be and that is what I want to know. Previous truck had the probe in the pan and the temperatures ran considerably cooler on the gauge and the gauge was not as reactive as this one is. This one goes up and down pretty quickly.

If the probe is in the line coming back from the cooler then you're not getting tranny temp readings. You're just seeing that the cooler cooled the fluid.

Great info. on the Temp. probe Steve. After you explained where it is that's the only place to put it.
