“mlh”,
Have you had a bad experience with K&N in a past life ?
This subject has come up in the past and you were as adamantly against K&N then as you are now.

^ No I have never had a bad or a good experience with a K&N filter. I do check scientific test of filters. That is why I don’t use them. I’m not qualified to do the testing nor do I have the money. I rely on people that can. See my web address above on post 15.
I’m not against a K&N filter but if someone is going to use them they should know all the advantages and disadvantages of them. If someone chooses to use them that is fine.

I've heard too many bad things about K & N, Banks and all the other add ons, I'll stick with OEM.

One must always ponder, why do truck manufacturers not use all the amazing aftermarket add-ons? Just sayin....

I have a friend who has a saying that explains how a lot of manufacturers do business.
He builds very expensive rifles for a lot of very famous people. He gets twice as much for an equal quality rifle as other top riflesmiths. His rifles aren’t Any better no more accurate but he gets $8000 and up for them. He says “you sell the sizzle not the steak”.

For me the OEM AC Delco filter does a decent job of filtering the air for the Duramax. I run stock everything on mine.. if you got the bucks to spend experimenting is great. I don’t so I use the money to maintain what is already a pretty good factory setup. 2007 Duramax and 6 speed Allison. No tunes, no deletes, and no DEF

Here is a link to an extensive discussion of air filters on diesels.
https://www.dieselplace.com/forum/3-...they-work.html

One consideration is if you are still under warranty, an after market air filter system could void your warranty.

Thanks Bad Moon, great read. Once again proved you can’t beat the OEM filters. Steak or Sizzle.
Oh buy the way great truck. The 06 and 07 Chevys make a great, dependable pulling machine.

K & N

We ran k&n on our Polaris rzr here in Yuma ,both of us had to rebuild engines because they were dusted. Are not recommended here In the desert.

If running a k&n in sandy conditions you need to run an outer cover.

Depends on which side you are on for this specific topic. Here is a road and track article that way more up to date 2018 to be exact. I run the complete S&B system in my diesel and I have it programmed is it going to add 500hp and a million pounds of torque..? No, but it will help it breathe better by no more then maybe 5%. It weighs half as much also, so to each their own.

If you feel the need for an aftermarket inlet air filter system, there are better available then a K&N such as AFE, AEM, BD etc, etc. These don't include an oiled filter media which WILL gum up your mass flow sensor. Yes, K&N says that they wont. Sorry K&N but you are totally full of bull droppings. I made the mistake on my '94 T-Bird as well as the '97 F150. And yes, it caused me grief in that a couple hours of my labor, a can of MAF cleaned and the cost of 2 K&N fithers plus their OEM style replacements. I have a K&N on my '31 street rod only because I couldn't find a 12x4 oval but that will get trashed as soon as it gets dirty and a new element installed. Then there is dust carry over until the filter gets a bit dirty ....

I can't say it hurts my motor, but I can say I gained a few mpg, and it feels more torqey!
I keep it cleaned, and oiled.

My 05 F250 has an air filter restriction gauge, as I think the newer diesels do as well. It has never moved and my truck has 125,000 miles on it with only one filter change. My feeling is that if you're not showing a restriction, than your filter is flowing all the air that your engine requires.
I used to own a 90 F350 with an aftermarket turbo and air box on it. That gauge would show a restriction as soon as you accelerated even moderately with a brand new paper filter. I switched to a Amsoil foam filter and it took a hard acceleration to move the gauge. I then switched to a K&N filter and the gauge still moved, but not as much. I finally resorted to adding some small ram air tubes and holes in the top of the air box to allow all the air needed. That tells me that the gauges are very sensitive and that the K&N does indeed flow moe air, filtering efficiency notwithstanding! YMMV

My 08 F250 6.4 has 600 HP. I can go up to 750 HP before my OEM filter doesn’t flow enough air and then only if I’m racing it, which I don’t do. I regularly have Blackstone Labs check my oil. Every thing now checks good. While my DPF filter was on fuel in oil was at 13%. That is the main reason I took the DPF filter off and tuned the truck.
Has any of you that has a K&N filter ever had your oil checked? I wonder what you would find?

Have used kn filters for the past 25+ years in both my trucks and motorcycles and am more than pleased, will continue. It is essential that they be cleaned and oiled at least annually, more often if used in dusty conditions.
