08 3400RL

Has anyone checked out the 08 3400RL? That new fangled hook up and the mirror on the front, are really just about the only new things I noticed about it. We were thinking of trading in our 05 but there are some bad changes too. They took some of the under desk storage and a LOT of the over the desk cabinet space. It looks like there's a larger TV in the living area too. Am I missing something? The price seems to be about 20 grand more. Or did I just get a good deal on my 05 when I got it new? Are these changes worth the extra money? Oh, it also has an electric awning - what's it cost to have one put on my old Montana?

One of the things the dealer touted about the hook up area was that it prevented freeze ups. Well, what's to keed the hose from the tap to the trailer from freezing up?

Open for ideas........

You have to use heat tape and pipe insulation for the hose and I put pink glass insulation in the bottom hole so the cold air did not get into the docking station area. Make sure your campgrounds heat tapes the water hydrant or it will freeze. Saw that happen too.
Cheers,

knrt - I believe you can have your awning on the older Montana changed to electric for about $1000 - had some friends that did that.

Karen,
Sounds to me like you found a new Big Sky 340RLQ. The desk, overhead cabinets, and awnings are still the same on the 08 Montana's as they are on the 07's. At least they are on the 07 and 08 3400RL's that are in stock at the local dealership.

We carefully compared the 2007 vs 2008 before our purchase. The only additions we found with the 2008 3400 were the electric awning and the new table design. The pedestal on the table is a smaller profile, the table now has a drawer, and it can be swiveled around without unscrewing the base from the floor. Maybe there will be other upgrades after the new year??

I was definitely looking at a regular ol' 3400RL. The Big Sky was sitting right next to it. The table was the same as the one in the 05 that I have. The closet up front was smaller and cedar lined, and the front storage area was cut in half to accomodate a generator. Again, the storage over the desk was about half the size of the 05. This rig was not a RLQ, Just a 3400RL. It looks like we're going to end up keeping the one we have. The differences in the 08 do not warrant the huge price difference, in my opinion.

The answer to the question you asked depends upon what all you looked at. First, the hookups have changed to a motorhome style with all of the connections in the front. The side access panel to the basement was changed to a barn door style. The new model has an HDTV in place of the 27" Toshiba in the '05 3400. The basement plumbing is now routed differently to give the new 0 degree rating. The sofa is now an airbed. As for pricing, figure you can multiply list by somewhere around .65/.75 and get an idea of where you will end up for purchase price depending on dealer. I know Montana doesn't want anyone talking about what we saw at the rally, but there were lots of exciting changes/options in store for next year. We especially like the new Big Sky's.

While at the Rally, during our tour of the Factory, our guide told us all of the Montana's coming off the line now will have the Electric Awning as a standard feature. Don't know exactly when the change was implimented but there are probably some 08's out there at dealers with the manual awnings.

I noticed the electric awning on the 2008 Montana's is an A&E awning rather than Carefree like used on the Big Sky. I don't know if they changed it on the Big Sky or not. The A&E system is about $400 cheaper - no rocket science required to figure out why they changed

The "Mirror" was added to the '07 models along with more hookup options in a convenience center, and most of the 08 now come with the flat screen TV, adding a storage drawer behind to store your DVDs.

When we were shopping back in early summer, a salesman told us that there would be quite an increase in price in all the '08 models. He quoted some numbers, but I forget now what he said.

The list on our 08 3400 was just under $61,000 and equipped with the most popular options and the slide toppers (not the dual pane windows or high gloss). We purchased ours for 30% off the list price after shopping around the dealers we liked. The price difference between the 2007 and the 2008 was only about $1,000. The 2007 did not have the new table (which I really like) and the electric awning (after using it, I now think it is a must). Other than that, they were equipped about the same. I can not comment on how the 2007/2008 are different from the 2005 or how much they increased in price since then. I thought that they changed the exterior design a bit and the suspension from some of the earlier models. The convenience center was also changed according to my salesperson.

We saw our dealer at the Hershey show and she said wait to trade until next year. Big changes are suppose to happen in 09.

Hopefully they are going to take the problems and concerns listed in this forum into consideration! If they don't, I hate to see the problems that will be incorporated into them.
