Camping with 30 amp service

Picking up our 3791RD in 11 days and super excited!

Our weekend getaway CG only has 30a service. I know I need to check each item but any experience running the big rigs on 30a would be appreciated.

I think we can make it work. I am assuming we need to be careful re: simultaneous use of hot water heater on electric vs. Microwave and air conditioners.....taking fridge into account.

It can be done. Just watch your power consumption

Sounds like you already have the basic idea. We have done it a number of times. And have tripped the park 30 amp breaker a couple times. You soon learn what you can and can't do. And an occasional trip of the park breaker is just part of the learning experience.

In some parks we have run the fridge on propane and water heater to free up electricity for everything else. We have a plug in voltage meter on display in the kitchen that enables us to monitor our draw.

Assuming the park has good voltage to the pole we have a rule of 2 items at a time. We can run the air and micro at the same time. If voltage at the pole is low or has a weak breaker then you would be stuck using one thing at a time.

We have a device called a Kill O watt meter.it wll monitor watts, Volts, amps, KH and KWH'.Plug in any device and it will measure those usages. We checked out the usage of all our devices and marked them so we know how many amps it will draw.

These Montanas use a lot of energy and you can run off 30 amps but not much.According to our PT 50C right now we are drawing 21 amps with the main A/C running with the Tv and PC on nothing else. This Montana will draw 5 to 7 amps with nothing running. Remember with 50 amp service you actually have 100amp service. With 30 amp you have 30 amp and that is it. On a hot day with both A/C running and maybe a couple of other things we have seen 41 amps being pulled.

Don't forget to pick yourself up a 30amp to 50 amp adaptor before heading out. It's really hard to plug that 50 amp anaconda into a 30 amp receptacle ! I always have a 30/50 dogbone in the electrical box just incase I run into a campground with only 30 Amp service.

The great part is it's not the end of the world if you pop the breaker. You just have to go out and reset it and know you can't run those things at the same time. You catch on quick and it's no problem unless it gets so hot you need to AC units.

It's simple, IF you are old enough (like me) to have watched Eddie Albert and Ava Gabor in the TV show "Green Acres" years ago.

Anyone remember the generator they had out back, and the plug system they had in the house? Remember Eddie trying to explain Ava (Lisa) what she could and could not plug in at the same time, otherwise the generator would "blow up".....!

Ah, the good old days and quality TV shows.

We've camped in many parks with only 30 amp service. You just have to watch what you turn on. For two weekends each year at an event we attend, we even have to put up with 20 amp service!!!

Don't run two ACs at once and watch toasters, electric heaters and hair dryers

I bought a 30 amp power cord that has the right ends to connect directly from the pedestal to the input receptacle on the back of the Montana. No adapters or dog bones required. PLUS it's WAY lighter than the anaconda.

x2 on the hair dryers! The DW's seems to draw more amps than anything else in the camper.

i put my fridge on gas the water heater on gas change your bulbs to led to to lower your wattage use light to a minimum that way i was able to use 2 a/c at the same time but if you going to use any appliance you will have to shut down 1 a/c it has worked for me
