What Should be in the Toolbox?

As a newbie, I'm just wondering what tools should every Monty travel with?

We are looking forward to picking up our new 3900fb in April for our maiden voyage.

Wow! No matter what you take, you will always need one more! Torque wrench, hydraulic jack, all the regular hand tools, 18 volt drill, ladder, headlight, compressor, volt meter, circuit tester, hand axe, special screw drivers for different types of screws special to RVs. Others will be along with their ideas.

You can become just as much of a tool nut with an RV as you can become with a stick house. The best thing to do is work with it some and you'll add as you go along. Larry has mentioned the basics. Some of us have drill bits and extensions to lower our spare tire and stabilizers (should the power fail) etc. One thing you should carry is something like a long phillips head screwdriver bit so in the event of a pump failure you can install it backwards and your drill can operate your pump.

I have so many things in my RV toolbox. Duct Tape in three colors! Every tool that's in my home toolbox. Things I will never use, in two lifetimes! That said I can't help myself at those "$3.00 misc. tool box items at harbor freight "! I am the guy you come to at a rally, before you go to hardware store. I need help...lots of help! The mystery of what "Michael did with all his money"! Will be solved when someone cleans out my RV! I can still hear the disappointment in my wife's voice, the last time she looked in the front storage area of RV...."Michael". What is all this stuff!!!!!

I was taking too many tool boxes and while at Costco yesterday saw a Craftsman kit of 150 sockets/wrenches for $99. The big thing for me was they all had a special place in the hard plastic tool box it came with. Now I know where the tool is and when it's missing. Of course, I still need extra sockets for Reese hitch and lug nuts due to the size. So now I'm down to only 2 tool boxes not counting the Air compressor, Honda generator so I can power stuff when not connected to shore power, and of course the Dewalt drill stuff.

Looks like a great set of ideas! One more thing I carry is a 4x6 mat to use when I go under the RV to place a jack or inspect the tires. Don't ask how I figured this was necessary.

Just my little suggestion, a mechanics creeper for checking the underside of your 5ver or your TV! My problem is I will have to jack up the 5ver so I can get under it! HAHAHAHA

P2 square bit screw driver/drill attachment, that is the most cost common screw that is used through out the rv.

There are probably a few basics, but it seems I am in a constant "stock up" and then a "clean out" mode. I hope after another year or so of full timing I get it down to just what I really need.

Don't just think about the RV, think about the tow vehicle too. I carry an extra serpentine belt, because losing one means you also lose your power steering and power brakes. I also carry an extra fuel filter because a plugged one leaves you stranded.

There's more here than it appears. The roadside assistance number keeps me from having to find a place for a hydraulic jack. With the new app I have from Coach-net they can even get my location from my phone when I ask for help.

I carry THIS tool set which includes metric and standard sockets, wrenches and allens, a 4ton bottle jack, crescent wrench, various types of tape, channel lock pliers, torque wrench for lug nuts, 18v cordless drill and cordless impact, cheap framing hammer, roofing hatchet, various sizes of but-splices and heat shrink, multi meter, wire strippers, thread tape, utility knife, assortment of screws, hose washers, several flashlights, assortment of fuses and 12v light bulbs, 50' length of rope, PB Blaster, slide dry lube and several shop rags. I keep the tool set under the rear seat in the truck and all other items in a plastic 3 drawer container in the very front storage compartment of 5er. The tool set came from a local mom & pop hardware store but the link is to the same one on Amazon for a cheaper price than I paid. Tim

I have everything I have at home, plus heavy duty items, like some 1/2" drive tools. If I need them at home, I get them from the RV.
