Best Way to Upgrade

Terrie and I are looking to upgrade to a Big Sky next year. We are thinking of putting our trailer up for consignment with our dealer around Thanksgiving and trying to sell it before next March. My thought is it would be a cash deal when we bought our new unit and we'd probably end up in better shape. Anyone done this before? Looking for pros and cons.

Sailer -

I sent you a PM. That is kind of my guess, but it's probably worth a try. Plus, it gets me into storage for the winter, which would cost a few hundred dollars.

If it works, you are a genius. If not, it will be part of your learning curve. We go an excellent trade on our Big Sky.

Did the consignment bit for our Sunline travel trailer. Put it up last Oct and removed it this June. Ended up trading both the travel trailer and Winnebago Class C for the 2008 Montana and some cash. Dealer sold Sunline in 10 days and the Class C in 45 days. Other dealers wanted anywhere from 15% up for the consignment. We made out very well (at least we think so) just trading them in when the dust settled. Certain the dealer made $$$ as well. Donot have to pay taxes on the units now.

Ron, we tried to sell our first Montana on our own while the next one was being built. We advertised way under what the dealer said it was worth and got "0" calls. The dealer did right with us on trading, so we can't complain, but they had our used unit 2 days and sold it. They didn't even have to clean it up or put any expense into it.
The salesman said the biggest reason was that the dealership can get it financed and people look for someone to do that. The way I see it is if the dealer can get financing then the buyer should be able to get it their selves.
We worked a deal both ways, trade/no trade and was quite happy trading.

If you trade the trade price will be deducted from the total so you won`t pay as much state sales tax.
