FloJet Portable Self-Priming RV Macerator

We've been thinking about getting a FloJet Portable Self-Priming RV Macerator Waste Pump Kit from Amazon. Can anyone recommend one over the other. Also will the gray water flow thru it without running the motor? Also, are they worth the time and money?

Never mind. I found a good thread about them, but I haven't found an answer to my question about the grey water.

The macerator doesn't just macerate, it works as a pump too, and grey water wouldn't flow very fast without it running.

We pump the black tank over 200 feet with the Flo-Jet, never had a problem.

Ok, I guess I need to explain what I want to do. We stay for at least 3 months at a time where ever we go and we are looking at our next place that has no sewer capabilities, but has said it is ok to dump our gray water either on the ground or into a retention pond they have set up. We leave the grey tank open when using the washer as it dumps into it. In other words, we leave the grey tank open most of the time and have been doing this on all 4 of our RV's, (2 motorhomes, a bumper pull and a 5th wheel), over the last 30yrs with no problems. We do not 'leave' the black tank open ever!

My question is, if we leave the macerator hooked up all the time we are at this site, (because it would be a real pain in the butt to crawl under the slide to hook it up when I need to empty the black tank), will the grey water flow through it without turning on the motor?

We will pump the black water into a tank in the pickup bed to take to a dump site.

Thanks Dick, I must have missed that. After more research, it looks like I may have to go with SaniCon as they do have a grey water bypass on one of their twist on models. http://www.amazon.com/Thetford-70224...sim_sbs_auto_3

I use a flow jet macerator when I am at Camp Swampy. Grey water will not flow thru it unless it is running. I think you could open the flush valve and run grey water thru a garden hose, but I never tried

I think my problem is solved as I just purchase this off of eBay for $250. http://www.ebay.com/itm/161178249572...S:3160&vxp=mtr
Looks like what Newmar Motorhomes mount in their service bay. http://comnet2.newmarcorp.com/instan...ages/95541.pdf It's supposed to be new/never used. It's the permanent mount model, but I don't see any reason I can't make it portable with a milk crate or a lockable metal box.

Well, it came in yesterday and WOW am I impressed. Went to Walmart and bought a plastic box with a lockable lid that it, the hose and 12 volt cord all fit in very nicely. Wired up a switch and a 20 amp breaker and I hooked it all up. I waited a few days longer than normal to empty the black tank so it was very full. It took about 5 minutes to empty. A lot faster than I expected. Am also doing laundry today and our washer empties into the grey tank. Had the grey tank closed while hooking this up so the washer was filling the grey tank. When I got done emptying the black tank I opened the grey tank and let it flow gravity fed without turning the pump on. Worked like a charm. Empty in about 3 minutes.

We have a macerator from SewerSolutions.com. It has no moving parts and uses no electricity. It works with water that is delivered to the head on the sewer outlet via a second water hose. A water jet from the top of the head shoots down into the 1" discharge hose. The water jet blasts everything coming from the holding tanks to liquefy everything coming out of the tanks. We usually attach the outdoor shower to the black tank flush and let that run as we drain the black tank.

We have a sewer clean-out in our front lawn. When we arrive home from a trip where we didn't dump (like boondocking) we park in front of our home and and use our Flojet to pump about 30 feet, slight uphill, from Monte to the clean-out. Slicker than snot on a doorknob.
