Exploded pop-off valve

I 'exploded' it to help you understand how it is assembled. The winged retainer end is inside the heater, the spring tension keeps the hot and 'downstream' water separated.
I super-gued the winged retainer on, so it can be used now.
*Edit* The stem actually inserts from the right side of the Brass fitting, then the spring, and retainer on the left side. oops.

OZZ, I just wonder if super glue will last immersed in hot water. Why not in an emergency just eliminate the check valve?

Time will tell, I may not ever need it.
I think super glue chemically bonds plastics, it fuses them together, rather than a glued bond, but I may be wrong.
And the elimination would be an emergency measure.

Ozz, it took me a few seconds to confirm this, but most cyanoacrylate glues will dissolve in water, especially hot water. The glue (an acrylic resin) actually uses moisture to polymerize, but that's its downfall, too.

(From Wise Geek.com) "While the effects may seem permanent at the time, most cyanoacrylate glue products can be dissolved with acetone (nail polish remover) or even hot water."

Ozz,

Let me see if I understand this, this is a check valve, not the pop-off valve? Making modifications or repairing a pop-off valve would not be a good idea?

Hey, I just had the one I took out, didn't want to throw it away. I will probably never use it.
It is the check valve. I didn't modify it, just glued the end back on.
I tell you what, I just threw it in the trash.
I just took a photo of the valve to show everyone how it is put together, just trying to add knowledge to the Forum.
Bye.

Time for a bike ride to the nearest "barley pop" establishment, Ozz! Thanks for the example of how the valve is arranged and works! I'm hoping I will never need it but if I do, I now know how to fix it and what to look for when I go to pull it out! Thanks Bud, have one for me will you??!!??
