montana furnace problem

We are owners of a 2006 montana. Our furnace sometimes goes out & trips the reset button & a red light flashes on the control board on the furnace. When we hit the reset button the furnace comes back on most of the time. Also when the propane gas tank on the right of the fifth wheel is half empty the indicator on the valve on the left hand side will be showing half red & half green & thats when we have problems with the furnace going out. If we turn the right hand tank off & remove & shake & reinstall & turn back on it is fine & the indicator on the left side is green when turned back on & the furnace works fine. Does anybody know what the problem could be & solution?

Linda,

From what you describe, the furnace is doing it's think correctly. Sounds like it is getting starved for Propane when running on the right tank.

Couple of things to consider on the right side tank:

The tank safety valves sometimes stick, and your's may not be fully open. I believe a refill station can reset it all the way for you, or

There may be moisture or oil in the line from the right tank to the regulator on the left. Might help to try and blow it out (be sure to remove the line from the regulators or you will damage the regulators, or

Last, but probably the most likely - the little red regulator on the right side is failing - which is pretty common. It is relatively cheap and might be worth a try just to replace it.

Good luck, and Welcome to the Forum!

Had similar problems and It was my regulator that went bad. I talked with the dealer and he said Keystone got a really bad batch.

Hit me on my springdale.

Brad mentioned oil. I had a big problem with oil that was left over when threads were cut on the cross over pipe. First, I had to replace the regulator. Second I had to remove the pipe and all the hoses and clean with a solvent. I do not use the tank from the right hand side, I swap tanks after the one on the door side runs empty. Better to have an empty tank than another gummed up regulator.
