Reinforced Closet Rod

Well after seeing how the "heavy duty" closet hanger rod was probably not going to make any significant road trip I decided to add a continuous aluminum tube with side angle supports which would be independently anchored to the walls and ceiling and then fasten the hanger to the tube.

We did a good trip with 3000 miles round trip to Savannah a few weeks ago and so far so good.

Here are the pics.

Nice job Les, the way they should come out of the factory.

We used plumbers pipe and a 2x4 to re enforce after the OEM rod collapsed on our 06 3400.This one on the 13 3402 seems to be sturdier.

I can complain about lots of things on my montana but we've never had an issue with the closet hanger. believe me we have a ton of stuff on it and never an issue. montana did fine with their design.

Ours was fine on the first run of 1200 plus miles. A month later at the beginning of a 7,000 miles trip it buckled/bent. I had to do a similar modification except I used stained oak with two center supports that come down and anchored onto the sides of the middle closet clothes hamper. Now I have solid full size residential wood clothes rods to hang our clothes on.

The factory design using little 1" screws to hold the cheap thin metal rod onto the ceiling material in newer models is a horrible design. They will all fail sooner or later.

Looks great. We had to replace ours after the first trip out.
