Outlet beneath sink needed for Ice Maker or not?

There I am after a 10 minute repair replacing the auto-reset breaker to fix the slides and I have the whole afternoon. So I consult my mod-to-do list and find listed that an outlet is needed under the sink to plug the portable ice maker into. So thinking that I was just going to chain to an existing outlet at the end of the kitchen slide, I loosened up the screws and was disappointed that there were other outlets in line. One interesting thing that I noted when the outlet was out is that it was enclosed in a box. I had never seen that on previous rigs, and do not know if all are done this way now? So then I reasoned that the last outlet on the counter must be tied to it at the end, but there are no screws to remove the cover? So I pull the drawers out hoping to be able to tie into the wiring behind the counter. Hold on here, what is that that I see, there is an outlet hidden back there that was installed to plug the dishwasher into, and it is a double outlet. Cool!! Immediately realizing I could take the easy way out, I grabbed a heavy duty extension cord and plugged it in and fed it beneath the sink, and just like that another mod was crossed off the to-do list. Love these easy fixes and am thankful the service tech added me an outlet just where I needed it! Another item crossed off the list!

Always good when you can just fall into it rather than have to do a lot of work.

I would like to add an outlet to the end of the counter of my 3100RL. I too looked under the sink and found the same thing. I will look further in the spring when the cover comes off () to try to tap into something.

Keep in mind an additional feed can always be run by adding a breaker if you have the room to add it and the means to fish the wire where you need it. I had considered that as well.
