Ram Integrated Controller Settings

Well, I got my shiny new Ram and they forgot to send the manual. I had to figure my way through setting up the brake control. I have it set as Heavy Electric with a gain of 8. Just curious how that compares with others out there with the Ram Controller.

Check with John Kohl he has the newer adjustable model like yours. On the older model I run mine on 8 and it works fine. On the other hand both of us have disk brakes, but I ran mine on 8 before I changed to the disk brakes.

On the newer Ram trucks, the manual is on a DVD. If you have an android or iPhone, you can install the manual as an app.
I think you can also go to Ramtrucks.com and view/download the manual.
I have a 2011 Ram 3500 and left mine set at whatever it was set at new,and 5 for a 6000# bumper pull.
Will probably have to set it higher for my Montana .

That setting couldn't hurt as a start. After hitching up, slowly get on to the closest road (next to your house?) and go through the adjustment procedure to get it set for what works for you. Keep in mind with everything cold it will probably lock up the brakes pretty good.

If you need help on the adjustment procedure, give a shout out.

I check my brake setting every time I initially leave the house and drive off (this is after checking the tire psi and checking the torque on the wheels). Then, after the wheels and brakes are warmed up from a few miles of driving, I check again and usually don't have to worry about it any more.

Up to now and when I towed for a living, I just learned to live with the fact that towing requires a lot more safety consideration than when I was just driving off in your car. If the procedures become second nature, then it just becomes natural.

Ron, the dealer likely has your manual. If I recall, the dealer keeps them until the vehicle is sold and then gives you the manual at closing. Or is supposed to.

I see that your Ram trucks are set for heavy electric. I am curious, does anyone know what amps and volts are put out by the controllers?

I have only pulled about 150 miles. I started out @ Heavy Electric with it set @ 7. I feel this is too high of a setting. My 3150RL is all but empty. Just picked it up and only have the very basics in it.

Been sitting for 4 days, when we start traveling again tomorrow, I am going to drop it to Heavy Electric @ 5.5.

The dealer only gives you a single book and a DVD. On the DVD cover is a 800 number. Call them with your vin, etc and they will send you the manuals in printed books. I keep the DVD on my lap top and the books in the truck.

Jim

Wayne,

On the display between the speedo and tach, go to the screen where you can set all the features. Go down and I believe the last one is brake controller setting. Right click it. It will display light elec, heavy elec, and light and heavy EOH.

6.5 is my setting. Took a little experimenting to find a number I was satisfied with. I had to request a hard copy version of the various manuals from Dodge. No charge. It came with a DVD and one basic manual. All the other manuals were on the DVD. When you are having a problem and need some guidance, I prefer hard copy, not digital.
