AWNING LOCK
We have a 2011 3455SA Monty & it has an electric awning. Is it advisable to install a awning lock on the unit or does the awning motor ensure we won't have an unraveling problem on the highway.
We had an old motorhome & once while going down the road in Wyoming the darn awning began to unravel & almost tipped our unit.
What's the general feeling on this subject.
Thanks, Larry-P

Larry,
we have the Weather-Pro from Dometic. It is a motorized awning and we do not use a awning lock. Never had an issue with it. The motor holds it tight against the rig - even in heavy winds (both on the road and camping!)

Same here. No lock, but to this point no problems.

We have seen them. We do not have, and have never had a problem in all our years of RVing. Having said that, it has happened to folks. But my opinion, very low risk as long as you make sure latches working properly.

Some other models (no Montana as of now) are under recall to repair the power awnings. A specific installation sequence must be followed to prevent failure and unwinding. Rvbusiness.com posts this information.

I have one...
Might be an issue if you forget to pull the pin when engaging the awning, just another thing to trip a guy up.
I don't remember where I got it, but I will try and find you the place.
I had a mess with our old TT, Sue was up on the roof in New Mexico holding the ... now a sail.. down while I cut it off with my knife.
Some lady was waving frantically as we were going down the road, I told Sue wow, she sure is friendly, asked Sue if we knew her.. then I saw it in the mirrors.

We have the awning lock that is shown on the link given by Ozz. We lost an awning once, several years ago, and we haven't lost one since installation of subject awning lock. For $40, it's great peace of mind. It's insurance against the awning mechanism letting loose.
