Slide space?

When the slides are out what is the normal range in the space from top to bottom of the slide edge and the exterior wall? Should it be the same top to bottom or can there be 1/4" to 1/2" differance on either the top or bottom?

This is opinion only based on observations, but when we retract our slides, the tops contact first and then the bottom. This would indicate to me that the slides are not extended exactly squarely at the top and bottom. Wonder if this is designed to enhance the sealing of the slides since it would seem beneficial for the top of the slide to have the best seal?? Perhaps there are some slide gurus who can chip in?

Personally, I don't think there is a set way at the factory. Ours was off both square and plumb. My friend bought a Mountaineer TT, and I don't think the top seal on the slide facing even touches the wall. And the dealer who sold it to him (used)couldn't understand why it leaked. It also was jammed so tight on the bottom, the trim facing was damaged.

To my way of thinking, the top should contact first, as the slide is free to tilt in on the top. Then, both sides should crush the seal slightly and evenly on the sides. JMHO

and then after I thought about what Will said, our top contacting first may well be because of the tension of the slide toppers. I agree with him though that it still seems that the tops should contact first.

I don't have slide toppers and when watching from inside (where the switch is located, the top contacts the top first, then the bottom continues to swing out to snug things at the sides.

The slides are pretty even all around the sides and the top. I have four slides and they all look like pretty even. If the slides were a little uneven then I don't know what tolerances should be.

It's been a while since I checked. I'll have to get out there and recheck. Thanks for the reminder.
