Hello from Reno

Our names is Art and Merlie from Reno, NV. I'm a TV broadcast engineer and Merlie works at a Doctor's office as a file clerk. All of our kids are gone and have their families. My hobbies is electronics, ham radio, honey wine (Mead) making and rifle shooting. Merlie likes reading, listening to music, and shopping (ouch). We own a 03' Mountaineer 335RLBS. The RV is in a trailer park, a bit cramped but still quiet. So far I have seen three Keystone RV's in the park here. We are full-timers as far as living in our RV and have not yet hit the road. We are still learning to live in the trailer and have found somethings easy and some not. All and all we enjoy the trailer very much. As for hitting the road, we have not purchased a truck to haul our castle yet and are open for any suggestions.

Welcome Art & Merlie. Glad to have you. I would say you would need a 3/4 ton at least to tow with. I towed with 1/2 ton & that is not enough room for error. Had plenty of power but not enough braking power. Just my opinion.

Welcome to MOC. Good to see another Nevada Montana Owner. I've seen a Montana going thru Gardnerville several times, but think it is the same one each time. Ours is due to arrive any day soon.

Welcome, Art and Merlie! Thanks for telling us a little about yourselves. I agree with Fae and Gene that you need a 3/4 or 1-ton truck. Any of the diesels do a great job. So do a number of the gassers, including the Ford and Dodge V10 and the GM 8.1L. There are others that will do well for you, too, but those are the ones I'm aware of. The Mountaineers are really nice units. We had opportunity to see some of them at a recent RV show. They are very impressive. Hope you get lots of enjoyment out of yours.

Welcome Art and Merlie to the MOC.

What do you think of this? If Reno wins the poll for the 2005 rally, how about we all set up in your backyard? You do have a BIG yard don't you??

Hey, hey, a great big Montana forum welcome to ya. Look at my signature and you will know my prejudice as far as trucks. Everybody thinks theirs is best. So find you at least a 3/4 ton of whatever brand you like. As far as diesels go, Ford is made by International, Dodge is made by Cummins, and Chevy is made by Isusu; all are good engines and all have their advocates and detractors. Do your home work and be sure you have enough truck to handle your weight. Then relax and enjoy to ride.

Welcome pisteuo! It's good to see another new member. We love Reno. There is so much to do there and we love all the events and activities Reno has to offer. My husband likes to gamble but I really think the buffets at the casinos are his main attraction.

We've been talking about going there for a weekend soon but with the current weather we'll probably leave the Montana at home and get a hotel room (with a jacuzzi!!).

Anyways, welcome to the forum!

I think you all can fit in the backyard, is 2'x 10' enough?? lol. Let's see where it is first, then we can start rolling the dice to figure out where everyone can fit. I'm gald you mentioned that, we have not voted yet.

From the High Sierras, we bid you a good evening.

Good to hear from you. If you all are going to be around after 6:00pm of your visit we could all go out for dinner. Just an idea. Thanks for the warm welcome.

Hello Bob and Sharon. My call sign is KB4VTA, the wife does not like ham radio, she calls it long distance static listening and everyone talks like donald duck. I have two great HF antennas for the RV but I can't make up my mind. They both have pros and cons. Maybe soon after the elections, this is a busy time for TV broadcasters, I can setup the radios. I think I have seen that Montana also going down Mount Rose Highway from Lake Tahoe. Hope you get your Montana soon, I know the feeling.

I bet we know a bunch of the same people. We lived in Reno for 5 years before moving down here (22 years ago) and were involved with the radio clubs up there. Do you belong to any of the clubs?
We want to get the radios set up in the RV this time. I think we will finally have room for them. I am into APRS, and like member Hamrad, will be using that while traveling around the country. We will never be fulltimers in the RV (never say never)but will keep our homebase
