Last High Park Fire Update

Just wanted to let everyone know our home survived the fire relatively unscathed. We will have to replace the refrigerator because the power was out for 3 weeks with food in the fridge. Hate to throw away a one month old Kitchen Aide but we've been told there is no way to get the smell out. (Yes, we have baking soda and coffee grounds in it right now). We may have a little window and roof damage. Our 2 acre wooded lot is now two acres of black twigs. But, we are very fortunate. Terrie's sister almost lost her house. The deck started on fire and got into one corner of their house. They lost a garage and shed. His truck, tools, trailer and log splitter were sitting ready to go and we couldn't get back in to save it. We couldn't believe when they were there, drivable, in front of his garage. Between our two streets, all of the homes but our two burned to the ground. And I mean to the ground. A pile of ash and the foundation is all that's left. 49 homes burned in 30 minutes.

We have been told it will be 2 weeks or more before we get water and power back. The fire is not out, but is 100% contained. All roads are open. Many sad stories of neighbors who each have their story to tell. Many plan to rebuild. We are looking ahead to mother nature rebuilding our forest. We have been told the wild flowers will be beautiful next year.

So glad to hear that you are safe and your home is for the most part good.

Hubby says don't waste time on the baking soda and coffee grounds. They won't work on a frig that has sat that long. He is an adjuster so he has opened lots of them.

Prayers have been said in church this morning for all those that have been hit by fires and storms recently. Mother Nature does come back to scared areas. We have seen this in our hill country area that burned last year.

That is very good news to hear.Sorry for your neighbors loss of homes. With prayer and lots of good friends a lot can be done. Mother Nature will add to it's beauty and hopefully everyone will be able to rebuild.

That is such great news.. What's a refrigerator after what it could have been. We will be so glad when all the fires are out... What a year and it is only the first of July...

Glad to hear the good news. Totally amazing that your house and your sister-in-laws were the only two standing!! Protection from above.
