Broken Microwave Glass

When we arrived at our last destination, I opened up the microwave to heat up some lunch and found the glass on the inside of the door shattered. Don't know how it happened or when exactly. Has this happened to anyone else? Anyway, called Keystone and they gave me the number of the maker of the Apollo and they sent me a replacement door. After getting the door, I was wondering if I could have just gone to a glass shop and had a new piece of glass put in the door. Anyway, I am back nukeing my food again.

I have a concern about door glass removal and installing youself. When they had to replace the inner door liner on ours as it was broken under warrenty I asked the repair shop if they had a leak detector. They replaced the unit!! I know whenever we removed the door we had to do a leak test

I think you are much safer replacing the entire door and doubt a glass company would have even touched that. I few months ago I was cleaning a foreclosed home and went to open the microwave door and due to the amount of grease built up between the door and the inside of the microwave it seperated the door. I told the realtor and first thing she said is they'll have to replace the microwave. Not worth taking a chance on something like that.

This happened to us last year! Called Keystone and gave us manufacturer and told them the model and they shipped new door to us. Bob took 5 minutes to put in. $54.00 cost.

Now...take glass plate out before leaving! :-)

I got my door replacement from Mid West Sales and Service, Inc. 917 South Chapin Street, South Bend, Indiana 46601 Phone #1-800-772-7262. The cost of the door to us was $45 plus shipping.
From now on, I think I am also removing the glass turn table dish from our microwave before we move it again also.

I had mine break and it was because the class turntable smashed into the door when I drove over a stump. Other than that I have never had a problem. I replaced the door with a new one myself no big deal.

We did the same. We hit the gate on our way out of the storage yard the week before our three week getaway. Ken had a new door shipped. It arrived in time and he put it in...no problem. I can attest to that because:
1) I was the supervisor on the job and
2) It works great!!
Good luck!! Marilyn

Wrap the glass turntable in a kitchen towel, return to interior of microwave. So far, knock on wood (and please NOT on glass), this has worked great.

Even when I 43 north of Milwaukee tore up my rear kitchen this summer and tossed things around that never have been tossed before, the towel trick saved the turntable.

The microwave door opened twice on our new Big Sky when we first got it. Dealer replaced the whole microwave and said the glass plate is VERY expensive to replace. I take it out and put it under my other plates in the cabinet with that waffley stuff in between. I only put paper towels inside while travelling, then I know if the door opens...papertowels on the floor..hasn't happened since new one installed. I am curious though. I have a Dometic and it doesn't appear to have the half time feature. Anyone know how to find out? Or if I can duplicate the feature with the convection/micro?????

Happened to us this year. Turntable bounced into the door and broke the glass. Called the Apollo people and had a new door within a week. We now wrap our turntable in the rubberized RV shelve liner before we hit the road.
