resource for roads to avoid when 5th wheeling?

Does anyone know if there is a good resource for roads to avoid when pulling our 5th wheels? Like small curvy narrow type roads, which might have low hanging tree limbs etc.?

If you don't want the adventure of narrow winding roads, get the Motor Carriers' Road Atlas, the newest one is dated 2017.

Or all the freeway/interstate system in Memphis? I too would appreciate this kind of resource. I use All Stays app for low clearance but would love to see tips on highways to avoid.

Bob,

Does someone make a software version like the Rand McNalley Deluxe Motor Carrier Road Atlas? All I see is them selling it in book form?

Bob,

Forgot to mention, I love the curvy roads in my Viper, but do not have any experience with 58 feet of truck and 5th wheel yet? :-)
My Montana 3820FK is due to me in about 3-4 weeks.

Dennis

We've had our rig on roads so tight that the skids on the rear of the Montana are dragging a bit as we make the turn, and at times we have to go clear over to the opposite lane to make the turn. You get to see much more than always being on the interstate. Just getting into and out of the in-law's property where we are now causes the skids to drag, to the point that I had heavier skids made that I installed last year. I did notice at the Seven Feathers rally that some of the newer rigs don't have any skids, so I guess if it's bad enough, the fiberglass cap is going to drag.

Have a Rand McNally RV GPS in the truck, the Rand McNally GPS app on my iPad (both of which will keep me off roads I shouldn't be on) and double check when I'm in an area of concern with a Rand McNally truckers atlas I picked up at a truck stop.

I had a MOC member come to my home. My own private road is curvey and narrow. You haft to turn 90 degrees and cross a 12 foot wide bridge. He ask how do you get your camper up here? I started to go through all the steps it takes but then I stoped and just said I've got a Ford. He has a nice Chevy 3500 DRW truck. He smiled and said that is why I ask. When we all quit laughing his wife smiled and said I think Tom got you on that one. I said I think so. We laughed some more.

As an OTR trucker I used CoPilot on a 7" tablet. It has various height settings which are pretty accurate. I always double checked the route against my Rand McNally truckers map if going into urban areas.

P.S. the CoPilot stores all maps on your device and only uses the GPS on your device while traveling. It requires no data connection while traveling, unlike Google maps. This makes it more like a dedicated GPS at a fraction of the cost. Plus you can still use your tablet to play Tetras while at CG.

Thanks, Joe, I think I will try the Copilot gps on my i-pad and also buy the book as a backup.

stungjoe - does the Copilot Ap used much data? We have to really watch our data use when traveling, as it is our only internet.

I will agree with the Memphis roads. Too many curves and lots and lots of low hanging branches. We lived there a few months for a job i had and i do not think there is a straight road any where in that town and the roads just drop off in the ditches.

Coming from the Memphis area..I seriously snorted hot coffee out of my nose reading this. Memphis is the only place on the planet you can drive completely across town on three different roads, and never make a turn!
