Montana emergency exit windows

does anyone open the seamless Montana emergency exit windows for emergency exit use only? do they have the same hinge as the hand crank windows

We open ours all the time when ever we want some additional ventilation. Just use a bit of care as the latch is not the strongest and several members have had some issues with them breaking.

Opened our rear exit once, mechanism seemed flimsy, that's good enough.

I didn't reply immediately because my information didn't apply to the seamless windows, but at the 2013 Rally I asked the factory tech crew if it was advisable to open those windows and practice emergency exist. Several felt the answer was no, but I insisted nd they said they'd get back to me. Several weeks later I got an email saying they wouldn't advise it.

I would at least open it up once or twice if you have never opened it up at all to get used to how it opens and see if it will open, our back escape window opens up into the ladder making that window useless so make sure you open all at least once just incase you might need it and yes we open ours all the time. Be careful not to break the latch.

This is what happens if you open it twice. Ok first time, broke second time. After dealer got wrong parts 3 times over 8 months I am told parts are no longer available. 2014 trailer....Kinro windows.

Call Kinro. or email them with the pictures to verify they can't get parts, I would bet against that. The folks at Kinro are super, give it a try.

Ozz,

I did call Kinro months ago. They want me to remove the back window and get their number off the side of the frame. I gave them the window size, and what I needed. No, only want a part number. They then referred me to Keystone and that call was a waste of time as Keystone informed me they do not have retail customer part support. Then using a Keystone Dealer, using my VIN they ordered the part. I need the 5 1/2 lock lever and over the next 8 months they received the 9" part 3 times.

This last time they received a 5 1/2" part but the attachment part to the window is wrong. Plastic instead of metal. One mount hole instead of 2 holes.

I was told the part I need is obsolete and not available. For a 2014 model trailer.

If you got any contacts @ Kinro I'll let you chase it.

No one seems to understand that sales only sells the first one, service sells the second one.

I have had only had good service from Suburban, Attwood, Dexter and Mor/ryde.

I have had NO CUSTOMER SERVICE from Thor, Lippert or Kinro.

Thus my position my next RV will have no Thor, Lippert or Kinro parts on it.

Jim

I hope you can find an RV manufacturer that has none of the company's you listed on your next unit. Seeing that they are considered the main stays in the RV world. Maybe that is why you are and more than likely the rest of us are or will have trouble getting any thing done with them due to the fact these company's have the market cornered.

Jim, I recall posts about our broken exit window rods several months ago. I never opened my rear one prior to it breaking. I can't recall the exact date, but it was probably after we were traveling in it for 3 or 4 months I just noticed the window flopping out when I stopped to fuel up.

My non-selling dealer said he was having trouble getting handle so I just let my selling dealer order one a couple months ago. Are you saying that they are not available? So if they are not available and broke under warranty then is this just another defective workmanship issue that Keystone is ignoring?

Called Kinro today and after a problem with the wrong lever (long one) being sent I again e-mailed them photos of what I needed. Was informed that the lever is measured from rivit to rivit not overall length of assembly. Mary ordered the right part from another store and assurred me it would be sent soon along with a return label for the wrong part initially sent. Very happy with their customer service at this point and suggest anyone with problems call direct for assistance.

Who is Mary and where does she work? Her phone number? When I called Kinro they said they needed the window part number and I needed to remove the window and get it off the frame. Kinro was less than helpful. I offered to send a picture with a ruler in the picture, nope, need the window part number.

Jim

Jim, sorry I didn't see your reply, wasn't subscribed to the thread and have been busy and not on the Forum. Looks like dmcgrew and Mazboy will help you.
Suppliers have a big catalog of parts and it is much easier for them to just look it up, probably a pain for them to have to go to dimensions and get the part that way. I have sat at their desk when trying to get a part for my HVAC and refrigeration needs. The more information you can give them, the better off you are, and measurements are critical, as in the example above, end to end? hole to hole? But they still have to research. If they are pressured to put an order that morning for 500 windows to a dealer by noon and your order is on the desk for one part they have to research, it just doesn't get done.
Keep after them, they do respond and are helpful, but it depends on who it is there, whether they are under pressure.
I have bought 4 windows and some parts from them (Kinro) and have always had good service and they were helpful.
*** Looks like I bought the one below from Parkin***
One window I got was the wrong one, I sent it back, they were OK on that, but didn't return my call once.. no biggie. Here is the run down on one window:
I got a number for an escape, dual pane, screened 36x22" part number is F-860-17653

Bedroom and office slide window, 3400 RL model.

Kinro is the company, the window is around $230 or so, freight, packing and all.

Dawn is the contact, 584-848-9100 Bad number…..

Take care, Ozz

Emergency exit window

I don't know the model I have, but the emergency exit window is on the opposite side of the bed. Out electricity went off earlier...a/c hasn't been able to catch up. It was 99 here today, finally cooling off...I have some of the windows open...some I can't get open because the previous owner probably never did. My question is...can you open the emergency exit window and then close it again? I don't see any hinges anywhere and I'm worried the whole darn thing will just come off. Help...I'm melting.

We opened every window in the trailer last week during our pdi, and our dealer told us no problem in opening the exit windows but do not extend them past the detent on the handle because they will fall off the trailer, as designed. This is one of those “I don’t know but I’ve been told” things. Just thought I would pass it along.
