New Surround Modification
I purchased a new surround system to replace the factory supplied unit in my Big Sky 340RLQ. Its speakers are completely different than the originals. The old system had the left, right, and center speakers mounted in a 3" panel above the TV. My new system has tall left and right speakers (about 3').
I mounted the tall speakers on the wood trim of the office slide out by hanging them from a screw. The center speaker is about the same height as the original center one but twice as wide. To find a home for this one required major surgery. What I did was to rip out the entire 3" panel. Then I fixed cleats on the inside of the entertainment center box so that I could put a shelf just above the TV. Now I have a 3" 'slot' above the TV with a shelf that extends throughout the box.
I put my satellite DVR and center speaker in the slot (on velcro) and the new surround box is in the original's location. It really cleans up the wiring mess that is in the original configuration. Never liked that rats nest very much. It also means that my DVR runs cooler since it now has air circulation instead of being behind doors.
