What is the best route around that big town? Looks like I80/90 may be it? We are going west from SW Ont.Thanks John

I've been thru several times. From Canada, I would take I94 until it turns into I80. You avoid toll roads that way too. Of course, you should time it for mid-day, as there are stretches of 6 lanes or more each direction in places.

A lot depends where you are going to in the west. I drop down at Gary IN catch I65 to highway 24 west across to I55 or I57. Let us know a little more for better directions.

We used to live in the Chicago area. If you're headed across I80 or I90, John's directions are best. 24 works fine if you're dropping down to I70. Mid day, midweek, without precipitation is best.
