San Antonio CG?

In '05 we stopped in San Antonio and wanted to walk the RiverWalk. They drained it the day before we did! DW wants to stop by and try it again when we leave the Valley the last week of March. Give us your best advise as to CG's to stay at around San Antonio. Thanks fellow MOCer's.

Dave, We stayed at Admiralty RV Resort, https://www.admiraltyrvresort.com/. It was fine for a few days. Spaces are a little tight. Seems to me like it was about 20 minutes from the river Walk. Jim

For close in to downtown, Traveler's World RV Resort is a good place to stay. Just a few miles south of downtown on a main street that is also a bus line. You can catch a bus right in front if you want. Or the drive is easy and we had no problem finding parking downtown on that street just one block from the Riverwalk.
Not the nicest part of town, but never had any concerns about being there. And it is a nice park. Apparently cater to snowbirds as they were having a complimentary goodbye to the snowbirds dinner when we were there in March a couple years ago.
The other closest to downtown is the KOA. Seems to get pretty good reviews also, but I have not stayed there.

If you just "need" to be close to DT SA, then x2 on Braunig and it is a full Passport America CG. Try to get a site in the premium area. At PPA rates it is about $25 a night. The regular sites are a little cheaper, but some can be very close together. It is a reasonable place to stay.

Now, if you are into sightseeing you need to get out of town a few miles more. New Braunfels, TX is just up the road, AND it is closer to Camping World. DW will also like it because it is very close to the Outlet Mall that is very, very, very big. From New Braunfels are scenic drives in and around Hill Country. It is about a 30-40 minute ride into San Antonio, then if you decide to go to the Capital of Texas and the Capital Building (Taller than the White House - everything is bigger in Texas) it is about a 50 minute drive North. Canyon Lake and Canyon Lake Dam are about 20-30 minutes away. After visiting Canyon Lake, take a ride down River Road, which has CG's also but one must know whether to come in from the South or the North if pulling as there are some turns one direction or the other. But it is doable if you want to stay on River Road, or even on Hwy 306 towards Canyon Lake. I have had a 1 Ton Long bed Dually all over the areas. Natural Bridge Cavern is a nice visit, along with the adjacent Wild Life Park.

There are many CG's in and around Hill Country, just look at the Camp Ground Reviews for the town(s) listed.

One place for sure in New Braunfels, is Hill Country RV. We just spent 2 weeks there over the Christmas/New Years hollidays and we enjoyed the CG, staff, and amenities. (Great laundry room). There is also a PFJ 1 mile or so when departing, so fuel up will be easy.

If you have any specific questions, give a holler.

p.s., When visiting SA, don't forget the Alamo, which is one of the original "missions," and then ride the Mission Trail. There are 5-6 missions that are a short driving distance, and most of them are operating churches. Great sightseeing.

We found the Admiralty too tightly packed for our tastes. We went a couple of miles away to the Blazing Star for two months and really liked that park. We had a backin along the southern edge and had lots of shade. If you'll be there just a few nights, they have a row of sites just for you. Good shade there, too. Nice sites.
