Stained Glass Entry Door

Did most of you use a sealer around the out side of the window when installing your new stained glass window.

When did everyone put on the sealer, after the window was in before putting the window back in.

Put the sealer on the outside window frame before you reinstall it in the opening. Good luck.

Ron there are a couple of tricks that will come in handy.
  • Be sure to clean out the old caulk from the outside frame.
  • The Mexicans aren't real good with a tape measure and you likely will have to shim the bottom of the window to position it equally in the frame.
  • Lay some black electrical tape down all around on the face-out edge of the new window.
  • Apply a bead of silicone to the outside frame
  • Lay the new window onto the outside frame
  • Caulk around the window and the frame with silicone to completely seal it
  • Once the silicone has dried enough, you can install the window from the outside and then tighten up the screws from the inside
  • Lastly, take a razor knife and trim off the exposed electrical tape (and leaked silicone) from the outside of the window.

We got ours in Algodones last year. You can check ours and others out at Jackson.

Got it at Los Algodones. Felt very safe there, no problems crossing or coming back.

There will be lots of Los Algodones sourced windows at Jackson. You will see a wide variety of styles and choices. And they come up with new ones every year.

Maybe I will wait and put the window in at the Rally. That way someone can tell me if I am doing it right and some of the others will also learn how to do their own.

Ron-- I bought ours at the Fall Rally last year and put it in about a week or so after we left while we were in Ohio. We took out the window, cleaned everything up, put clear silicone caulk all around the black frame then put the new stained glass in, put it into the window opening, caulked the other black frame and put it into position and installed the screws back in. I let the silicone setup for about 4-5 hours then used a razorblade(or equivalent) and trimmed any excess silicone off from both the glass and the frame.

Screws to remove the window are in the black frame(mine is black anyway)on the inside side of the door. Just unscrew them and the window will come out. A small piece of advice, however. Have someone brace the window from the outside as you are removing the frame. Don't ask my why!! I don't now if you have a long window or the shorter one like we do but it is really no problem to remove or put back in especially if you have someone to back you up to hold the window while removing or re-installing it!

If you want to wait until the rally I am sure we can find folks to help you install it. There is nothing more fun than watching other people work.

I have done a number of these, so I won't be learning if I work. But if I watch and you work, then you learn how to do it. That way you can teach someone else how to install them next year at Quartzsite.
