Dodge CTD cracked innercoil not covered

Dodge gives 5yr 100,000mi warranty on cummins diesel. I cracked innercoil coming back from Fla last week over W.Va. mountains. Dodge says its part of 3yr/36,000 not 5/100k on engine. Its part of the turbo, but not part of engine. $825.00 to replace. I'm fighting with them, but no results yet. I'm at 4yr, 61,000mi. Has anyone heard of this exclusion? I told them I want to see it in writing. Service Mgr to get back to me on that. Comments, please. Ray

What's a intercoil? Do you mean Innercooler? If so I think Dodge is right on the 36000/3years since it is NOT part of the Cummins itself. I would look at a after market unit myself (now waiting for the warranty police on this).
This was one of the plastic units I bet.

I think I would look up on E bay and see if I could find a used one.

That would be "intercooler".

Depending on the failure, and if it's not a plastic one, your cheapest route would probably be to get it repaired. Are you upping the boost with a tuner box? Stock boost should not blow out an intercooler.

Sorry,it is innercooler. No, I have not added anything to it. I want to protect the balance of the warranty. I just don't underestand why it's not covered. It's not on a gas engine, so I assume it should fall under the diesel warranty.

HUmm Now I have to look at my Ford Diesel warranty. It reads the same as the Dodge..Butttt..This could prompt the Ford ESP plan sooner..

did it blow the plastic end off or what? Dodge did have a recall on the intercoolers with plastic ends..pursue this for sure. Check it out thru dealers TSBs issued by Chrysler

Looked at the 08 Ford Warranty..5 years 100K miles on the diesel motor..Page 11 para 4. It looks like the turbo assembly IS covered although the word "interecooler does not appear. I have no idea what parts make up the turbo assembly . perhaps someone who does know can read that page and comment. I AM going over to the Ford dealer and ask the warranty department the specific question as to what exactly is covered.. Ray... Thanks for the heads up..

ON EDIT...The intercooler IS covered 5 years 100K see page 21

. Intercooler assembly-Engine charger

What in the blazes is a "engine charger"

The engine charger is the turbo system, the pressurized air supplied by the turboCHARGER is called charged air.

It was confusing... The turbochargers are covered under the Diesel motor warrenty. The Engine charger and inter cooler were covered under the "emissions" warranty..both for 5 years 100K miles.I was confused by the turbos being under the motor warranty and the intercooler assembly-engine charger under the emissions warranty??? as long as it is all covered I am happy.

Thanks again for all the info. Steves reference to the diesel forum gives me some ammo to go back to the dealer with. Apparantly a lot of people had problems in 05 with the plastic ends causing a mid year change back to all aluminum. Awsome wealth of info on this forum. Fortunately I was able to tow all the way home with just losing power on the hills. Mine was cracked, not completely blown. Thanks again qand God Bless, Ray
