Best route to Julian, CA

Does anyone know what would be the best (most RV friendly) route to go from Rancho Santa Margarita, Ca to Pinezanita RV Park in Julian, CA?
Seems like I remember amny years ago going to Julian and driving on lots of steep winding roads. I don't remember what route that was.

Those same roads are there even today, but lots of RVs travel the area. I drive there for the day or so and encounter lots of RVs. It's just expected and at least I understand the draw. I've towed my Monty back there a few times. South of Julian is not possible anymore (length restrictions) but up to Julian from Temecula is doable.

I-15 South to Hwy 78 eastbound. Yes there are mountain roads to negotiate, but Julian is in the mountains so you can't avoid it. This route has probably the fewest mountain miles.

We'll be driving from Oceanside to east of Borrego Springs on Friday to dry camp in Truckhaven to view the meteor showers from some dark sky.

Thanks for the help Art and Rainer. I will probably take the 5 south to Oceanside, and then across Hwy 78. This is the most direct route for me.
