Found where our hair is going!

We'll as we continue to lose hair we wonder where it went, but just like in the stick house it's going down the drain in the shower and now the water stays in the shower longer. Before I start on my ideas of what to do or we end up with a small bath tub instead of a shower, please give me some ideas of what works best for you folks. Thanks!

My in-house retired service call plumber said do the same as you would in the stick house. The plunger and removing the screen and pulling out what you can see. Good luck! Let us know what works!

Takes a few times down the drain grabbing a bit of hair each time. Not messy and avoids messy clean up. Jim

I've used the thing jimcol recommended and it works great. It's cheap too.

I just remove it from the drain after each shower and haven't had a problem (I don't let it build up). Just remember to be careful sticking things in that drain as most of the newer unit don't have the old fashion "P" or "S" trap. They have that straight section with a rubber flapper (forget the name) that lets the water go down, but closes to block the smells from coming back up.

Michelle, the rubber flapper is already history due to another escapade a while back, covering it with one of those rubber sink stoppers works to solve any oder problem. Jimcol, that looks like a great idea and looks like the thing that is coming with bottles of liquid plumber now days. I'll definitely be giving that a try when I get back into the big city some day soon.

It's in the trap. Sometimes a plunger will dislodge it and it will flush down the drain. Mine has the traps, maybe some now have the check-valve, I don't know.

We use a drain screen in ours. Works great to catch the hair before it gets into the trap and tank.

Prevention is easier than repair.

Here is what we use. Turn it upside down and it sits over the drain. They come in lots of sizes. Might find one that works inside the drain hole.

I guess the best preventative is to shave off all the hair, every where, on every body! The dogs would especially hate it but just buy them "doggy clothing"! I suppose prevention is not always the best medicine, eh?

As I am reading down I am wondering why this is a problem we do not have.
We have a drain screen!

Kind of wondered myself why I hadn't seen it come up before.

When I rebuilt my shower last yr I put a new deep stainless steel drain with a 2" basket that drops in. It's only 1.25" but it works great. When it drains slow I know I have to pull it and dumpit.

Dick just shave your head and you won't have to worry about hair going down the drain! Now I can't recommend that for Joyce but the screen will work for her! Are you enjoying the cold down here? Can't figure out why we came down to avoid the cold weather can you?

Ozz I had to do something my hair is falling out so fast it stops the drain up very quickly. I may be able to do away with that basket real soon. LOL.
