We have a Mini split heat pump. It WILL heat down to - minus 15 degrees F. It does not have a heat strip, I’m positive. We had a really cold day for us last winter, 2 degrees F the air coming out of it was 120 degrees F.
It’s a Fujitsu AOU36RLXFJZ extra low temperature heating. It’s a 36000 BYU unit and puts out 36400 BTU at 5 degrees F.

Personally, I don't use the heat pump much to save wear and tear on the AC. The fireplace puts out more heat plus we use a Vornado space heater when it's chilly.

At night, the Vornado keeps the bedroom warm and in the morning, I run the fireplace, except in very cold weather.

It seems the only way to only run the heat pump is to turn off the propane bottles. Is this the correct operation? In Texas we can usually get by with just the heat pump and electric fireplace and save the propane if this is possible.
3121RL 2021 owner. The hp turns on when choosing electric. Keep in mind that the furnace will automatically turn on when you select three degree over actual inside temp. If you want fast heating that the way to go. If you prefer not using gas, always select not more than two degrees. Heating is slower using hp.

Heat pump

The only way that the heat pump and furnace run together is when the fan setting is on high. When the fan is set to auto you may select furnace or heat pump.

Went out this week. Low and behold.....I set the thermostat to electric heat and (heat pump) and I heard the HP and gas kick on. Didn't get up to see what the temp differential was...cause I was sleepin...but there it is. learn something new every day.
