Door weather stripping

On our 2955, the door seal doesn't seal below the door latch. At night, looking at the bottom left side of the door, I can see light down to the bottom of the door.

I've already cinched up the latch to it's tightest postition and can't bring the door in anymore.

Any ideas

Antler,
I am assuming you have a foam weather seal on the inside frame that the door closes to. Have you checked the mid and lower hinge on the door? It is possible that the hinges are sprung. It might be only the top hinge is sprung slightly causing the lower portion of the door to not touch all the way. Also check the hinge side of the door for any gaps.

Yeah, we have a weather foam seal on the door frame and a rubber seal on the door itself. I'll take a look at the hinges tomorrow after the sun comes up and see if something looks sprung. Thanks for the hints.

Regards..

Mine does the same thing right where the door latch is located. I have been trying to figure it out for a year and a half now. I am making an appointment to have the dealer deal with the problem.

I'm going to do the same thing later this week.

We have a gap of about 1/8" that is two feet long in the middle of the storm door...like the door is bowed out. Get a heck of a draft when it's windy. I'm still trying to figure out how to seal it.

Maybe we're seeing a trend here. Our door looks bowed out also.

I can throw an idea out there for a possible fix. Tape a block of wood at the top and bottom of the frame or the door back along the front edge. Then close the door and push in the middle along the front edge and bow the door back some. Being careful to not oven do the pushing.

I would venture to think a shop might try this or they might take the door off and lay it on a flat surface and spring it back in shape using blocks.

Just my best guess guys.

On Edit: There is some adjustment in the latch strike plate. This might help to spring the middle in if there is a tighter closing door to the jamb.

I adjusted mine similar to what Jolu states. The "flimsy" door bends very easily, so be careful. Also, I really don't think it will stay, because of being so flimsy, jmho. Once again though, we have to remember the weight issue with these traveling homes, so you're not going to get the quality of a stick house.

If your door has ever been caught by the wind and whipped open against the side, I believe this action alone can spring the door. A simple adjustment as jolu described is an adequate fix.

Gosh, I've owned a number of trailers and never had this problem before. I sure hate to hear that the door is flimsy, it makes me wonder what else might not be up to speed.

I dropped our trailer off at the selling dealer yesterday to get it fixed. A more local dealer that I called didn't want to mess with it and asked me to take it back where I bought it.

He hadn't seen the trailer but guessed that he might need to order another door and said that would take a while to get.

I'll let you guys know how it goes.

I just noticed that the weather stripping on the door bottom does not go all the way across the door. It goes in about 2 inches on each side then there is a 3 or 4 inch blank spot then it is filled in middle the rest of the way.. What is up with that?? It is really drafty in the step well. The door is not bent and it looks pretty much like he same door on every 5th wheel nearby...

I'm not exactly sure what your saying about the weather stipping on your door, is there any chance you could post a picture?

Enough to say that the weather stripping does NOT go all the way accross the bottom of the door. There are 4inch gaps on both sides....Are they all like that ???? Does not seem right....

Went to Home Depot and purchased a roll of weather stripping, exact match and did the entire door.

Good deal on the weather stripping, I'll have to remember that.

So far I haven't heard anything our unit yet. I guess I'll call or go by in the next couple of days to see what they are going to do as our door was bent.

I noticed that Dsprik's 3400 is the same so it is deliberate.. I wonder why as that allows cold air to pour in????

Mine has about a 1" gap on each side along the bottom. There is a 3" piece of trim, then a 1" gap, a long piece in the middle, then another 1" gap, and lastly a 3" piece at the other end. Kind of like this >>

Perhaps your 3" pieces fell off after a time?
Dunno, just a guess here.
