self adjusting brakes

I've always thought that trailer brakes needed to be manually adjusted. The literature for my Dexter brakes on my 07 3400 say that "most" of their brakes are self adjusting. I took it in to have a front a/c installed and asked the service rep and he said they were self adjusting. I haven't got it back yet, but I'm going to check it out when I do. Anyone else think they have self adjusting brakes? Also, where exactly do you jack up one of these beasts? Thanks for any info.

I don't know about now, but a looong time ago self adjusting brakes on a car adjusted themselves when you backed up. I wouldn't want to be backing up my Montana as much as I would think it would take to keep the brakes adjusted!

The Cambridge came with self adjusting brakes. In fact, I had one wheel (driver's side aft) that was always over adjusting for some reason and had to be replaced at about 15,000 miles. They work just like the old self adjusting drum brakes on cars. Funny thing was the service manager at the dealer insisted they couldn't be self adjusting because he had never seen such a thing on a trailer. Now he has............

From what we were told about my wifes '95 Camero, the auto adjuster when backing from years ago don't exist anymore. It does it thru the emergency brake. When you pull the emergency brake it adjust the brakes. Go figure. Who uses the emergency brake on this flat land.lol. Sorry to hijack the thread, I know we're talking trlr brakes here.

The Dexter Axle manual that came with my 2007 3400RL states "MOST DEXTER 12 1/4" ELECTRIC BRAKES HAVE A SELF ADJUSTING FEATURE." My trailer has 7,000 lbs Dexter Axles and the 12" x 2" electric brakes, and not the 12 1/4" x 2 1/2 or the 12 1/4" x 3 3/8" electric brakes that would have the self adjusting feature. I have found, in the every short time I have been dealing with the service reps, not to believe everything the service reps tell me. That it is up to me research and to know what equipment I have. As far as I know the brakes on my trailer are not self adjusting.

Thanks to all. I'd be suprised if they where self adjusting. When I get it back I'll know for sure. By the way my build date was Aug. 06 and I have 6K axles

Ours was built the same month as yours and also has the 6k axles. I am planning in the next month to adjust the brakes. I'm pretty sure they are not self adjusting. Those on our 2001 and 2003 were not but those had al-ko axles.
