Hep me, hep me..........

I think someone invented 'puters to drive some of us crazy! It can be a short drive at times...
My current problem is that my Compaq R4000 has a dim screen, 2 days now. When I unplug the 120 V., the screen gets bright like it almost always is. Battery indicator is full, goes down as I use it.
As soon as I plug in to power-bam, dim she goes.
It has done this in the past, don't remember why or when it came back around to normal.
I will shut down and restart after this message to see if that fixes it.
Thanks!

Ozz,

Look for a setting that lets you select screen brightness depending on whether you're on battery or ac. Mine typically operates the other way around...it's brighter on ac and dimmer on battery to save power. Usually you'll find those selelctions in Power Options, but you may also have a keyboard function that will let you control it, too. That may be why it's operating that way, you might have hit the wrong comination of keys.

Ozz,

Check your power settings. Minimize any windows that you might have up. Do a right click on the mouse anywhere on the screen and select properties. Click on the screen saver tab and select power under power monitor and check to see what power setting you have. Hope this helps.

Good Luck!

Also try the Fn and F8 key at the same time. Mine usually gets dim when unplugged and bright when plugged in but hay, Ya never know with these crazy things.

I'm feeling pretty dim... My laptop gets confused and will think it needs to go to dim mode when plugged in as its controlled by some logic that figures its sitting idle and time to save power, dim screen...likely a "feature" to give back to the power companies cause we all know they could use a few extra bucks. Humor off, yeah what the others said.
