If you lease the boxes like we do they do not belong to you and if you leave the service you would have to send them back. When we upgrade we do have to return the old equipment.

We normally have a directv service person come to the S&B or the RV and do the changeover. We are about to do that when we get back to Ohio.

As far as twc, an earlier postwas correct. direct wanted to pay less and twc wanted a buck or two more. Turns out direct wanted twc gone. they own weather nation.

I had good service with direct with the exception of installs. not enough space to go into that. Just switched to Dish as they have dual receivers so I can put one in my 5vr and it will work on both tvs. bedroom will be standard def but after all, we are camping! also save about 20 a month.

DirecTV service persons are generally incompetent. I miss owning the equipment, buying it in a store, and doing the install myself. 90% of the time I have to correct the tech's work after they leave.

Agree. We have had Directv since 2003, and with the exception of a few irritants over the year, feel we get great service.
We've had DirecTV since 2002 with nary a problem. Have been very satisfied with their service. All done while full timing. Never had it in stick house.

I received a replacement DVR Friday, and installed/activated Saturday. Directv tech was very efficient in assisting with activation of the replacement and gave us three months of Starz/Encore free of charge.

It is interesting to read the different experiences with Directv and the service. It is sort of like our experiences with our Montana's and dealers and the service center. Some have never had a problem and have had very positive experiences others have not.

Our directv experience over 11 years has been positive as has our 7 Montana dealer and service center experience. We see no problems with dish but also see no reason to change. In terms of cost we pay for the service we want, more than some and less than others.

I've had DirecTV since '97, but I have to call every 6 months to get my bill reduced. They always have a scam going to raise you rate then offer to give you $30/month off if you sign up for another contract.

That is pretty much normal business marketing. We have to do the same thing with sirius radio and cell phone and did the same thing when we had cable Tv service. Our contracts with Directv are a two year contract at the same rate but we understand the marketing and call at the renewal date and negotiate a contract price.
