Flood insurance for RV
I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has information about RV flood insurance. Our Montana 3400 is only four months old and the current Mississippi River flood situation has made us realize we should check into flood insurance before we begin our country-wide travels(we're going from Florida to Texas next week and know we may be delayed for a few days on the east side of the Mississippi River). I've dones searches on the Internet and find lots about RV insurance but not RV flood insurance. Also, we no longer own a home since we're traveling fulltime, so we cannot get whatever coverage there may have been available for covering the RV under our house insurance.

We never even considered flood insurance...if it looks bad...hook it up and leave.

That would be our first response. However, we've seen the White River in Indiana rise at an incredibly fast rate and there was no time for people to move their RVs. My thought is to be prepared rather than just hoping for the best -- we still have too many payments to make on our RV!

Thank you for suggesting American Modern. I found this info on their website for RVs: Flood insurance – Coverage for a flood is typically excluded from property insurance policies. You may be able to add extended coverage from your insurance carrier, but often your only option is to purchase a separate policy from the federal government through its National Flood Insurance Program.

Ask you agent if the comprehensive coverage part of your policy would cover the flood damage.

But we are talking about Rv's...Rv's move about. You can be on a flood plain one day and in the Mountains the next day. As above ask you insurance company how that applies to your RV.

As I understand Federal Flood Insurance is purchased for a specific location elevation, Flood Plain Etc so I can not see that applying to a trailer

You're exactly right. "Other than collision" coverage, formally known as comprehensive coverage covers named perils including flood and earthquake. Typically flood insurance can be purchased through the federal program for stick built and mobile homes not for RV's.
As always, check your policy...read the section, damage to your auto (RV). It will list the perils insured against. Then read the loss settlement provisions and the exclusions. Policies vary from state to state, company to company so you must read it our have your agent review it with you.
