Replacing outside flexible seal on slider question

I'm not asking about the wiper seal attached to the body of the camper thet has the long wiping blade but want to change out the outside seal that seals when the camper is shut and is attached to the outside lip of the slide. One of my two sliders has a 1/4" foam gasket that I want to remove and put the bulb type seal on it.

My question is about doing it in sections. I would probably force the new stuff into a 90 degree turn but it would be easier to just cut it into 4 sections making sure they meet and are tightly together. Which way is OK to do?

Thanks... Hoping for a quick answer. A look on your factory sealed one would give me the answer. I'm not sure how factory installed either of mine are.
