Pin Box Upgrade
Asking for a friend, anyone have experience with the Air Ride Pin BOX AND the MorRyde Pin Box? Differences? Likes? Dis Likes? I have the mor RYDE, i think it does a great job over the standard pin box. He has a GD with a standard pin box, and is looking for something to assist with chucking. I have told him I am happy with the mor RYDE, since I don't get much chucking at all. I think he still wants a little more info in comparison with the Air Ride, since that one is a little more expensive...

Can't speak to the Air Ride but the MorRyde pin box is the best upgrade I made to the unit. Towing is so much easier with a lot less chucking over the rigid stock pin box. Bought it off of Tweedys.com for a lot less than what MorRyde was offering it for at a national rally. Installed it myself in about an hour.

If $ is no object, I would go with a cushioned pin box ($600-1000) of your choice and a air ride hitch ($3-4k)

We have a Trailair air ride pin box. I can watch behind me and the hitch is moving 2 to 3 inches on a smooth interstate. They do help but I suspect there isn’t much difference in them. I would get the one that is most convenient to get.

I have the Trail air pin box. I installed it right after I purchased the 5th wheel. Therefore, I cannot give you any differences between the standard and the upgrade. The air cushioning for me just made sense.

My 2955RL came with the Mor-ryde and I used it with a Pullrite Superslide.
It worked OK but I was only able to use the front/back slide motion on the Mor-Ryde as the pull rite hitch capture plate required the side to side slide motion to be locked.
I took the pin box off and the hitch out and installed a 5th Airborne Sidewinder pinbox and a new hitch and never looked back.
I previously had a 5th wheel SOB with a pinbox that would rock back and forth. Trailair rotoflex.
All three work about the same for chucking. A level trailer will also help with the symptom. Nose high makes it worse.

i actually looked into the Airborne sidewinder, but its max capacity is 16,000 lbs. Do they make a heavier one? Anyone know?
The GVWR of my unit is 16,800 LBS

I had a 5th airborne on my 2007 and loved it. Took out most all jarring. But have not made the jump yet on my 2018. $$$$$

I’m at Morryde right now getting independent suspension & disc brake on my Montana. I have a Super Slide 5th wheel hitch with a capture plate on my 5th wheel.
What are your thoughts on a Morryde pin box?
Can’t get a good answer here at their waiting room. One gentleman from Morryde says it’ll work a little bit because of the capture plate being in the way.
My question is it worth it??

You cant get better than a Morride pin box,I have tried standard, as well as roto flex for doing away with the chucking, as for the hitch its self an airsafe 16K hitch system is the best you can do. You have to realize that you truck is very stiff, and every bump in the road travels thought you truck to the hitch to the pin box and then to your RV. Yes some of those bumps get aborbed in the transition but it eventally gets to the RV and airsafe hitch stops that and yes they cost a little more than other hitches, but not as much as someone said. They do make airsafe hitches for RV the weight you may need!

You will need a capture plate for the pullrite that fits the morryde. You will lose the side to side cushioning of the morryde due to the capture plate. You will only have the front to back movement. This is due to the twisting of the pinbox/hitch with the pullrite. The capture plate has some plastic blocks that you install on the side of the slide plate of the morryde that keeps it from moving side to side. They know this at morryde.

My unit came with the MorRyde on it and after the front left frame failure, we switched to the TrailAir pin box with the air bag. It literally took less than three miles down the road to realize we had made the correct decision. Much better riding all the way around and yes, I have airbags on the truck as well. Much more enjoyable ride now, especially on the interstates on the bridge expansion joints.

Jim the cushioned pin will do more to remove chucking than air bags on the truck. The air bags will just lift up the truck to level it. I got the Curt Q25 when we bought are new truck and it helped a lot with the chucking with the bushing it has in the head of it over the PullRight we had before.

I have a Trailair on the rig I have now and would never own a rig without one. It makes that much of a difference.

I have the Mor-Ryde on the rv but I also have the Trailer-Saver TS-3 air-bag hitch on the truck with no chucking what-so-ever. I had a standard Curt hitch on my truck before the TS-3 and a standard pin box on sob and it would beat you to death. After installing the TS-3 on the truck with sob standard pin box I had zero chucking so you can see I can't tell you anything about the Mor-Ryde on account the TS-3 eliminates all chucking period. The advantage to the air-bag hitch on the truck is it can stay with me from truck to truck and rv to rv.It really doesn't matter to me which pin box I have on my rv as the air-bag hitch on the truck does all the work.

Trailair AirRide is the way to go, and a tight hitch.
