Changing Reciever

We bought a 2017 3911FB Legacy last year. Keystone changed the rear receiver hitch to 2" in 2018, but ours has a 1-1/4". We have a great Thor bike rack, but its to heavy for our smaller receiver. Does anyone have advise on changing ours to 2"? Our original is bolted on, so should be an easy change, if I can find a replacement. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Might just remove the small one and take it to a welding shop and have them make a brand new one all beefed up with a strong cross bar and the two inch receiver. Then you can just bolt the new one up where the old one was. I doubt the small one has enough steel to support a two inch receiver, so its best to go all new and heavier.

Try the Hidden Hitch 82201. I've run one on my old Wildcat 31QBH for that past 12.5 years towing jetskis and hanging bike rack. It bolts on. I welded some 2x3 along the frame so the bolts could be installed in the tube rather than on the bottom flange of the frame beam.


You do need to verify the frame width on the trailer to make sure it fits. I can get you the installed dimension until Tuesday when the trailer goes to another home.

I used the Hidden Hitch 82201 for 8 years carrying bicycles on my last Montana. My 2012 came with a hitch already installed. That hitch is adjustable to almost any frame width. The Montana frame (and most other RVs) are around 78-80" (not counting the short lived Big Sky line which had a wider body and likely a wider frame - I don't know). The 82201 goes out to 82" which allows you to bolt to the inside or outside of frame. You will need an extension to get the receiver out far enough from the rear cap to actually use it. I welded my extension to the hitch to avoid any slop. If you carry something heavy off of it, consider sticking an appropriate piece of square steel in the inside of the cross bar. One member here carried a Honda 3K genny, among other things, back there and the 4"x4" crossbar rotated such that the carrier sagged down to the ground.
