Slide out awnings

Does anyone know how to take out the slack in these awnings? I have one that has to much sag in it.

If it were me, I would first look at the slide awning documentation. Next, I would call the manufacturer to get it from the "horses mouth" on how to make tension adjustments. Often the info is online at the manufacturer's site.

Dave, It would really help to know the brand name of your awnings as there are several, then someone might me able to help you. For example, mine are A&E which is Dometic and there is an adjustment arm on them used to take the slack out.

It's done the same way as the patio awning. The tube has a spring that determines the tension. You have to turn the end of that tube to increase or decrease tension. I've heard this is not a job for the novice as a broken arm can result from the tremendous spring tension. The manual has instructions, if I recall, so it can be done if you're careful. I think two persons working together is recommended. And be careful.

I have been told by an installer "do not try to adjust them yourself".
