Arizona Hwy 79 south, Mesa to Tucson ??

Anyone have experience with this road ?, wondering if its a mountain up hill pull and white knuckle downhill ??. The Atlas shows it as a scenic route.
If its an easy pull would rather try it than double back to Phoenix thru traffic to pickup I10.

79 is a mostly 2 lane scenic road - have no fear -this is a easy drive.

Another way to go is
go East on 60 to the 101
go South on 101 for a few miles to 202
go West on 202 to the 10
go South on the 10


We live in Mesa - off 60 exit 189 and would go via 101-202
but would leave about 9 in the morning to avoid morning rush.

Thanks for the info Dave, were out in Canyon Vistas RV near Apache Junction east of Mesa and will be heading out in the morning. We aren't due in Mission Tx til Dec 1, think we'll opt for the scenic route down 79.
(This park is very nice with the huge pool, billiards, craft shops, etc. If Tx is too windy we may consider this place for next winter, if its still available. Price is pretty good.
Lots of Park Models going up but there are 600 spaces)
