For my Montana, 3075, I would recommend a one ton truck. I do just fine with my 3/4, but would buy a one ton starting over.
With that Big Sky I would also consider a Freightliner sport model, built just for 5ers. They cost more but are not bigger than a dually. You will not overload it.

A replacement 2012 3400 has a GVWR of 15,640..Over my F-350 tow rating of 15,500..The Big sky is 16,152 way over. New truck is out of the question and that puts a new Montana out of the question. Friend in our local camping group has a Cougar High Country. Well built 5th wheel towable with a 1/2 ton truck. GVWR 10K. These heavier units put us out of the new RV market.

I agree! Montana weights keep climbing faster than truck capacities. With fuel prices the way they are, I will look at other options if I buy again. Keystone has some nice other units to choose from.

I'm not going to get as technical as the rest of the gang here. I have an 09 Big Sky 365 REQ. I pull it with an F350 DRW. It pulls like a dream. It STOPS almost as good as it pulls. I would never even consider using anything else with this heavy load. Good luck with your deliberations!!

As has been noted here before, "pulling" is not the issue, any diesel will "pull" any Montana or Big Sky fine. The issue is the ability of the 3/4 ton to handle the pin weight and remain within the specs.

I see for 2011 GM has upped the GVWR on the 1 tons.
10,800lbs for a 1 ton SRW gas.
11,500lbs for a 1 ton SRW diesel. That's 100lbs more than my dually.

Probably the exact same truck, just upped the weight to compensate for the extra weight of the diesel.

We must not forget for 2011 GM 3500HD's the entire frame is different and larger braking systems. You will notice a difference in ride also, thats the first thing I noticed the second was the HP. Again its a personal choice. Happy Trails....
