Which Hitch Do You Recommend?

Just traded the '05 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel longbed for the 2011 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel shortbed. We pull a 2008 2955. We're in the process of choosing the optimum hitch. What are you guys using/recommend?

I had a 2955 before the current Monty. I pulled it with a short-bed F-250 diesel and a PullRite SuperGlide hitch.

An advantage of the SuperGlide is that when you are hooked up, you don't have to worry about turning clearance. The hitch does everything automatically.

A disadvantage of the SuperGlide is the d*** thing weighs over 300 pounds. I had to rig a pulley/come-along system in my garage to take the hitch out and use a furniture dolly to move it around.

Other MOCers have used other sliding hitches and have had good luck with them. I would definitely use some brand of sliding hitch and not trust the (so called) aerodynamic cap to miss your cab in a sharp turn.

We have a Trailer Saver TS3 in a Chevy 3500 long bed. I don't know if they make a slider for a short bed truck. We are very happy with the ride we get with the TS3.

I had a 2006 King Ranch with the short bed. While making a turn into a fuel pump I knocked out the back window by accident even though I had a Valley slider hitch as I didn't realize how sharply I had turned and didn't slide it back. Since then I bought a Pullrite and I have never looked back. I don't have to stop and consider whether I need to slide the hitch back. It takes care of itself. That back window cost my insurance company just over $1,000 to replace. I also had a small bent place by the back window that never got fixed. The Pullrite takes care of everything and lets you concentrate on driving.

I, too, own a TrailerSaver TS3 hitch, which I consideer the best hitch on the market, however, they do not make a sliding hitch. If I owned a short bed truck I would definitely go with the auto sliding Pullright....

I don't have a lot of miles on mine yet, but on my initial 1,500 mile trip I was very happy with the Pullrite Superglide 16k. I also went for the Superrails which make it nice when you don't want or need your hitch in the truck, the rails and posts are easily removed and the truck bed is clean (just four holes where the posts go).
Most people I've read have really like the Superglide. Got mine from Tweety's (along with the MorRyde pinbox).

Buy the superglide and you will never regret it. I have one in my 06 Megacab and it works beyond my expectations. They are a little pricy but you can drive and manuver without worry.

I also have the Pullrite Superglide. With a short bed I would not pull without one.

Ditto, pullrite supergide. Glenn (rest his soul) had a great post and recommendation about the merits of this hitch. Hopefully a search will find it, but I relied on his experience and very glad I did.

I have a pullrite and love it. I would recommend getting the quick removable adapter plate just in case your rig ever needs to be towed by a non pullrite hitch. I had one welded on and although I never had a problem I had it removed last fall on the way home and the quick removable one installed. Just for that one time you are in need...

2006 HD 6.5 box Chevy. We don't have but a few miles on our 2011 Highcountry 323RL. I really like the 15 K pullrite superglide. The hitch does everything automatically. I don't have to worry about turning clearance.

In the original post you mention that your truck is a longbed. You will not need a slider in a long bed. A airride hitch is going to give you the most comfortable ride but if you want to remove the hitch from the truck when not pulling the trailer an airride hitch will be too much trouble.

You can't beat the pullrite for the shortbeds, piece of mind $$$. Here's what can happen if your unit is towed with the capture plate installed by a generic hitch. They bought me a new capture plate and they bought themselves a new hitch plate.

Actually, he did say that he traded his long bed for a new short bed...hence the numerous Superglide suggestions.

The newest air hitch from TrailerSaver is the BD3 (that's what I got) and they do have a manual slider option (which I also got...I think it also works for the ts3 hitch). I'm not very experienced, picked up my Monty in Feb , but I decided I wanted the air ride hitch and have a short bed 2008 F350, so I got the manuual slider option. So far, I love the MorRyde pin box and TrailerSaver air hitch combination.
