New Shoes for the TV

I was going to wait until March to buy new tires for the Dodge. The walls of the Michelins were so dry and cracked, it worried me. I had 56,000 miles on them. I went into Mesquite, NV which is 10 miles from us here in Littlefeild. They had some clearance Good Year Wranglers Silent Armor. I got the three year Warrenty, and rode side service. If the tires fails, they will tow you in for up to 600.00. lifetime rotation. If the tire is puntured and can't be fixed they replace them. All this for three years. I had them filled with Nitrogen. The size are LT 245/75R/17E, I was hoping Lonnie would see this and tell me if these are good tires. I got them for 165.99 each. I would like everyone opinion. Also there is a 60,000 mile gareentee on them. thanks for you time.

While talking tires, I was thinking about tire designations the other day and it occured to me that LT stands for "light truck..." I think. If that is the case, my truck weighs about 8,000 lbs...sounds heavy to me, but lets agree for the time being that 8,000 lbs is "light." Now some folks are putting "LT" tires on there fifth wheels...mine weighs in at about 14,000 lbs for travel...we try to travel light. But some folks push the limit and are over 15,000 lbs. Now just where is the line crossed for a "light" truck and a "heavy" truck? I was prepared to accept 8,000 lbs as "light," but 14,000 or 15,000 lbs seems heavy to me. What do you think?

I think if they are safe, meet your load requirements and you are happy with them you got a great deal! I have Goodyear Wranglers as OEM and I like them just fine.

well if they last 60 K that will be a good deal along with the price I think. I have LT tires on my new Ram, and on my Monty, no blisters or cracks yet.

I put the Silent Armors on my previous TV and loved them, had about 35000 on them when traded and still looked new, plenty of traction for those grassy campgrounds, yet were pretty quiet for such an agressive tread. I've been thinking of putting them on the new TV, but then I would have 6 Michelins to find homes for. Still thinking, but I really did like those silent armors.

Just put new Michelins on the rear of our Dually. Had 86,000 miles on the old Michelins. Never rotated and NO weights on them.

My F350 came with Goodyear Wranglers. Got a little over 50,000 out of them before replacing them with another set of Wranglers. Have always got good service out the Wranglers. But my stock 20" tires costs considerably more than your 17" did.
Was going to buy Michelins for it. But the 20" Michelins were on a 6 month back order at the time and we were getting ready to leave on a long trip.

Look at the weight rating on the sidewall. The F250-F350 and 2500 and 3500 series trucks are light duty trucks.

camillaMichael.. You have discovered what most folks do not talk about in LT tires on the Rv. Most do not meet the tire load ratings. Some do....

We were obliged to buy general Grabbers when we ruined our tires dues to the U bolt failure, They are part of Continental tire , German owned with facilities in the USA. These tire were made in the Czech republic and we have not heard of " Czech bombs" yet. The load rating is 3083 at 83psi 6166 per axle, 12332 total. At our first RVSEF weigh in we were slightly over on total axle weight but had @60 gals of water and waste on board. We were however over on the tire load ratings. We are much heavier on the galley side of the 3400. We have since reduced weight and are just within specs.

Our next tire will have the proper load ratings.
When purchasing tires for the Montana pay attention to the tire load ratings. They are often overlooked.

That was what I was getting at, Rich. It does not make any difference to me what tires people want to put on their fifth wheels, unless they are traveling beside or ahead of me on the road. I read a comment on one of the rv sites about an LT tire on a trailer having its treads literally "pushed" off the tire as the trailer was being backed into a site at an approx 85 degree angle. Now this might also happen with an ST tire...just have not read about that. Still, what has really got my interest relative to the LT tires on trailer/fifth wheels is the significant overall weight difference between most trucks and most (?) fifth wheels...as I said, my Montana is close to twice the weight of my truck, and the tires on my truck are these big 20" brutes! I do not wnat to offend anyone, nor am I trying to convince anyone of anything...just stating an observation about tires on fifth wheels. Michael
