Chemicals in Blackwater Tank

We haven't traveled in the 5th Wheel since we got back from Florida in April. We are now about to take a trip to Maine. I can't remember if I added chemicals to the blackwater tank or not after emptying it. Is there any harm in adding a second dose of chemicals to the tank?

Won't hurt a thing. When we were using chemicals we sometimes didn't communicate and we both did it. We use the Borax or Calgon now - cheaper and works just as well.

Totally agree with Sue. On adding and no longer using!

Add away and have a great time! However, if you are gonna be on full service sites, you can just add a bunch of water the first day and dump whatever has been around since spring.

Cheers,

Carol

I tried to answer you email but it kept coming back undeliverable. So here is my answer to your question.
A cup of Calgon (the kind for the washing machine not the bath tub) or Borax. I buy whatever I can find and they both work. Lately I have been able to find Borax in the laundry department at the grocery store. Ever so often I also put some detergent in but since our bath sink drains into the black tank, it is getting plenty of soap. I also, once in a while, put the same mixture in the gray tank and the galley. We have always left our galley open when we park and have had no problems with this. Right before we take off when Ed has closed the galley, I put some Borax and soap down the drain with some water. I don't like the chemical smell of the chemicals and besides they are expensive. Hope this helps you.
Happy trails.....................

Are you sure this is true? From what I read that bath sink drain goes into your gray water tank!
Happy traveling!

Very sure. See the post on black tank filling fast. Keystone seems to change things around quite a bit. On the early '05 3400 the toilet drain pipe and the sink drain pipe are only a few inches apart. It makes sense to have them both go into the same tank.

Won't hurt a thing. I used to add a second packet in very hot weather when it needed more odor control. Used to, when I used the chemicals.

Keystone service center suggested Pine Sol. Vicki picked up some store brand pine sol equivalent at Walmart. Lemon scented for a better smell. 40 ounce bottle for about a buck. I put in about an ounce and first dump was very impressed that when I flushed there was only discolored water, nothing else coming out during the flush process. I dumped again yesterday. Same thing. Granted it was a brand new tank but still...

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

Dave,

On our '05 2955rl the vanity sink does drain into the grey water tank. I know this for sure since when I want to clean flush my grey water tank I fill it using the vanity sink.

This may well differ between models.

I need to add here that when the temps stay in the triple digits - like 110 to 112 - for days and days, I have to use some chemicals. But that is the only time we use them and it is only for odor control.
