Rust

We just purchased a new 2006 Montana off the dealer lot. While working on the rig in prep for the maiden voyage I discivered moderate rust on all steel members on the underside of the unit, especially the slider hardware. This very troubling on a new rig, anyone experienceing excessive rust?

I don't think that stuff is undercoated treated.Wonder why not.If it is just a cost saving issue I would like to undercoat it my self.My brand new 3400 is the same..looks bad..Speaking of rust, on my 3 month old 3400 most of the screws holding the compartment doors on and in other places are rusting in the center. That looks really nice.Easy fix tho,,but I wonder why I have to fix it...Another item on my....Hey Keystone list..

Hey gang, our Challenger was the same way. I went to Lowe's and bought two cans of Rustolium black in spray cans and took care of the issue my self. It will be something I touch as needed every year when I de-winterize.

Dale, what all did you spray? Just the slide rails? On the teeth also? Frame members? Every exposed metal other than the shiny round chrome tube? Thanks.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

I painted everything that needed it except, the shinny chrome cylinder shaft. I even crawled around under the axles, painted those, the brake cover plates, the spare tire carrier and the steps.

Most of the frame is enclosed. I inspected everything and painted whatever was exposed.

Now of course, you don't want to do this on a windy day.

Hey everyone thanks for the input, I half suspected it was not uncommon. I already did the Rustoleum treatment on the pan under the batteries. In this case I used a wire wheel and took it down to bare metal then primed and top coated.

sounds like some good weekend projects, a section at a time.
