Pay Phone to Heaven
We are spending the summer in Gunnison, Co. and every Wednesday we have a park social hour. (plus our own every night) Everyone brings finger foods and we have a local guest speaker. Tonight we had a History Prof from the college. Made me want to go back to school.
He spoke of a business man back in the late 1800's that went west to find a place to start a business. He was a very religious man and went to mass in every town he visited.
At every Catholic church there was a Golden Pay Phone by the pulpit. He would ask the priest the same question. What is the phone for? To call Heaven. What does it cost for a call to Heaven. The priest would answer $10,000. Since he did not have $10,000 he would move on to the next town. Go to the local church, same answer. He traveled all over the west, going to church in every town. Same answer in every town.
Finally, he arrived in Gunnison, Co. He went to mass as he always did. He asked the priest about the Golden Phone by the pulpit. How much for a call to Heaven. The priest smiled and replied $.25. The man could not understand. Everywhere wants $10,000 here it is only a quarter.
The priest smiled and said, that is because it is a local call.
Hoping you are having a great summer.

I've heard a different version of the same story. The phone call is to God in this case. When the guy gets to Boston and the call is only .25, he asks why, and is told it's local because Tom Brady is just down the road in Foxboro.
Ok you haters, I know you're out there. Here's your opportunity.

Dave, there has got to be more to it than that.....like the business man from the 1800's ended up inventing air compressors or something?

How about a couple of guys named Telsia and Westinghouse teaming up and built a water powered generator station @ Leadville to power a local mine.
Lots of history in the valley.

Sambam, I didn't know Tom Brady was Catholic.
I feel bad for you all, God and I use FMRS radios and besides it being free, I figure He's close because the radios only have less than 5 mile range. I have talked to Him about mishaps I've had and He just reminds me He does that so I don't get cocky and forget about Him.
Stay humble my friends.
This reminds me. DW and I search for the local Catholic Church on Sundays wherever we are full-time. We find we are liking, the simpler, less opulent ones (and we've been to some doozies). The lesser ones seems friendlier and smaller and one can feel closer (plus parking my beast of a TV seems easier). Bless you all however you chose to worship or not.

Finally, he arrived in Goshen, Indiana He went to mass as he always did. He asked the priest about the Golden Phone by the pulpit. How much is it for a call to Heaven. The priest smiled and replied $.25. The man could not understand. Everywhere wants $10,000 here it is only a quarter.
The priest smiled and said that is because here everything is cheap or at least made that way… And sold at a very high price and we don’t stand behind the product we sell…
Remember there is no stairway to Heaven only broken steps and falls… (LOL)
