Yepper! Sue and I did it, we had the Homeland security checkpoint guy all over our rig, inside and out.
a painless deal, good break on the drive. look for the railroad traces in the rugged rocks from the building of the dam. I envy your trip.

I did.
It's not a weight thing. The dam can handle full tractor trailers. However it has been a few years for me and I don't know what has changed in Security.
hahahaha - Ozz and I answered at the same time, his answer is more up to date

Yep, there is a security check point at the dam for RV's. I was real scard as we approched( from Las Vegas) and all the signs said for trucks to use Route-95, but gave no reason, like length or hight. Found it was so the Homeland Security did not need to block traffic checking all the commercial traffic, but Rv's are OK just a small delay.
Have a good trip.

ON EDIT: Lots of answers say yes, in the time it took me to surf you an answer up! Enjoy the ride, the views are special, hope you find your mom in better shape.

Hey Carol, WOW you went the extra step for us...thanks....I've been googling but didn't find the links you found.....we've been over the dam twice in the past two years but not with the Big Sky and we've seen all the construction......not sure if we'll cross over to Laughlin from Bullhead City or head for Hoover Dam. That hill from Laughlin is BIG, might be better going up than down which we did last time in the Big Sky.
We're just trying to get to Vegas quickly as my mom has fractured her pelvis and we want to be there for her.

You are welcome, I remembered the comment the other day about your mom, and thought, what an interesting question on the dam driving, so, hit the ole search engines.
I know what a stressful thing it is trying to get somewhere in a hurry with that big anchor, if I could help at all, all the better.
Some interesting reading and I learned something.
You two drive safe, ya hear??
