Well, Virgil & I finally got to go out on a Halibut Charter in Ninilchik after it was canceled on Saturday due to high winds. Ask Virgil & he'll say it should have been canceled Sunday also, as it was rockin & a rolling (had to hang on to anything just to kept from being thrown overboard). We all did catch our limit, no big ones. Neither of us got seasick, thank goodness.
We are in Homer & we fly out of Anchorage back to Wichita,Ks Tuesday for a death in the family, will fly back next Sunday.
Keep Safe

Good Morning, we are in Haines. Rain, rain, did I say it was raining.
We are in Bald Eagle home. They are every where. They are glorious to watch. We are looking for bears, have fished the Chilkoot, caught some same fish, nothing big. We will be here till tomorrow night.
We are taking the ferry to Skagway. It will save us some time and money with the cost of diesel here. I will give us more time to visit in Skagway.
Virgil, hope all is well with you and Jo.

That's a great ferry ride, David and Brenda. When we took it one of the First Nation men gave us a description of tribal life that was very interesting. Hope your experience is the same.

David and Brenda,
We are 3 or 4 days behind you, and would like to take that same ferry ride. We haven't made reservations because we don't know yet which day we will want to go. Did you have any trouble getting on?

We are going from Haines to Skagway only. They run on a schedule that does not run everyday. We got on the with no problem, it gave us an extra day in Haines, it leaves at 9:00 P.M. It only takes an hour, cost for our unit and TV, $232.00, that is based on 55 ft. Check the schedule when you get here. You should not have a problem.
You would know that the salmon would start running the day before we leave, caught 5 yesterday, they are starting their second run in the Chilkoot river. Have not seen the bears at night yet. They are a no-show. We have tonight to try again.
Make sure you check it out when you get here.

Hey!!!! Where is everybody. Was there a tsunami or something that we don't know about?

We crossed the border back into Montana today so I guess our Alaska trip is officially over. That is so sad but at the same time, I wanted to kiss the ground when we got across. Three + months is a long time to be gone from the lower 48 but we are already planning on our return trip. We were welcomed back to Montana with 96 degree temperature's. Thanks Tana, the a/c works great. This is the forst time it has been on since last April.

Tell us what's happening everyone. Safe travels.

Helen and Bill,
Glad you made back home safely. We are a couple of weeks behind you. Crossed from Haines to Skagway on the ferry today and drove on to Carcross. Should hit the Cassiar tomorrow. That road is real smooth with no bumps, right?

Hi Guys, we are in Washington. We are planning to tour Mt. St. Helens and then go down Hwy. 101 on the Oregon coast.
We toured the big town of Hyder, what a hoot! If you get lost in Hyder you must have gotten hyderized. We saw the salmon glacier and the bears. I even managed to get in the river and catch a few fish. What a great end to the Alaska trip.
We came through Hells Canyon, It was the hottest day and toughest ride I have had in 2 months. The wind was blowing hard and climbing those hills were not enjoyable.
Bob and Jan, glad to hear you made the ferry trip, that to me was the best way to see Haines and get to Skagway. I know you will enjoy the Cassiar Hwy, that is if you like bumps, mud, and dusty gravel roads.
Bill and Helen, hope you enjoy Montana, we are going to slow down as much as we can and let the temperatures go down some before we head east.

We left the Kenai and backtracked to Talkeetna for a few days. The Lord created an absolutely perfect day for our airplane ride around Denali on Sunday afternoon. The flight and the weather were so wonderful. We landed on a glacier up there and walked around for several minutes. We flew up to over 10,000 feet and the top of Denali was still over 2 miles above us. Everything is so massive, you tend to loose perspective quickly, it only looked as though the top was about 1000 feet or so above. The sun was shining brightly and there were only a few clouds. Really, really spectacular.

Today we're sitting about half way between Palmer and Glenallen waiting on an opening in Valdez on Friday.

Glad to hear the you guys are safely back in the lower 48. Kenny and Virginia, where are you guys?

We are still at Homer, Ocean View RV Park. Will leave Saturday the 12th, hope to find a CG in Moose Pass. Plan on taking the 6 hr cruise on Sunday out of Seward. Monday will drive back down to see the Sea Life Center. Tuseday go thru Palmer to see the MuskOx farm and then see how close we can get to Valdez.
Took the tour yesterday to Bird Island and lunch at the Rookery, just saw birds, no whales or otters. Not anxious to get back to the lwr 48 and those hot temps (105 in Kansas).

Kenny,
We did the Muskox farm in Palmer yesterday. We both enjoyed it. They charge $8.50 each for the tour. That took only about an hour, maybe an hour and a half.

This campground is called the Grand View and it is at the 109.7 mile marker about an hour north of the Muskox farm. It may be a good place for you guys to stop over. From the Grand View RV Pk to Valdez is about 200 miles. Here there is cable TV and they have wifi IN SITE #10 only, otherwise, you go inside... but the cell works here so you can use your aircard. $27.50/night

Hello everybody. We've had no internet for several days on the Cassiar, but finally found a very slooooow WiFi at the campground here in Hyder. The trip down was great. Beautiful scenery and the road wasn't all that bad.
The bears are out here, and we'll go up to the glacier today. From here, it's over to Alberta for a week or so, then back to reality.
Sounds like everyone is doing well.
Be safe.

We're back in Minnesota. Wow, it seems like we have been gone forever. We are at a nice little park just over the South Dakota border called Ortonville. We will spend the night here and then go the last 50 miles or so to see Bill's Mom and more of his family before heading for the Mpls/ St Paul area to see our kids.

Safe travels to all the rest of you.

Bob and Jan, are you still planning on coming to the rally in September. I sure hope so. We will look forward to seeing you again.

Rain, rain, rain, rain, rain. It started raining last Wednesday. We arrived in Valdez on Friday and it has rained almost continuouly until now, late Sunday afternoon. The humidity is so thick now it still feels like it is raining. Tomorrow is supposed to be "cloudy. If the weather isn't at least some better, we're probably gonna move on. We've seen enough of Valdez to know that it would be beautiful in the sun. Folks are catching silvers like they are going out of style. We saw them weight in a 16lb8oz fish worth $1500 on Saturday.
Helen, glad to know you all are safe. Jo and I are headed to Sioux Falls when we leave here.

We feel that we have been left behind. Here at Grandview RV Park, will head for Valdez tomorrow for four days. Are we the only ones left in AK?

Hi Guys, we are in California. On our way to Yosemite tomorrow. We have toured down the coast of Washington and Oregon. Went through the Redwood Nat. Pk. You need to go there if you have not been, go see Fern Canyon. It is unbelievable. The worst thing is that we have found the heat. Temp. today was in the 90's. I wish I was back on the coast.
