6.0 PSD Repaired

Got my truck out of the shop yesterday. Here is what I read on the repair invoice:
38390 DIESEL DIAG. NO START EEC TEST C P2293. AIR TEST HIGH PRESSURE OIL LEAKING FROM STC FITTING AT REAR OF PUMP REPLACED FITTING AND INSTALLED BRACE AS PER TSB 06-17-06. RETEST PASS TEST DRIVE RESTART STARTS AND RUNS OK
PARTS: (I am typing as I see it printed. Not sure of fitting #) REPLACED FITTING AND I
0610706A INSTALL STC FITTINGS AND OR SNAP TO CONNECT FITTINGS
1180 W
1 4C3Z*9B246*A KIT - FLEXIBLE PIPE CONNECTION
That is the repair order. I did have to pay for an oil change as they had to drain oil to repair.
INTERESTING, AND I POINTED THIS OUT:
I paid for 15 quarts of 10W30 Oil. Queried this oil weight and was told that Ford now recommends this weight in the 6.0 liter only. New 6.5 needs the 15/40. Can run 15/40 in 6.0 if towing in extreme heat conditions if desired.

You know, if your repair was under warranty and the maintenance procedure required the oil to be drained it should have been covered in that repair order as a consumable. Nit picking but it makes sense.

Thanks for the info on the high pressure oil pump. I guess you have to pull the pan to get at it, from the looks of the picture. So far my 06 PSD runs like a champ, just turned 30K miles. My dealer just did the trany oil change and fuel filters, $352.00. The diesels are super when towing but the maintenace is really expensive.

I thought the oil should have been included myself.
I am at just over 38K on the odometer.
Just a thought. If you start to notice a bit longer start time (cranking), trouble may be coming.
I had (hope this is HAD) a noise that would not show itself anytime a service center was open. My best description is a noise that sounds like a real bad bearing rattle at times. This noise only occured when the ambient temperature was higher (maybe 80 degrees or so) and the engine had been running for some time (like an hour or more). It would not be noticeable when the engine was under load but at that transition time when the throttle is not closed but not pulling either. I first noticed it last year on the return trip from Glacier NP. Hope this latest repair takes care of that noise.!!!!

I don't think it is a recall. It is not listed on the Ford official site as one anyway.

Well, in all fairness, I was 200 miles overdue for oil change. Maybe they were actually looking out for me. Sometimes you have to hope. BTW this was done by my selling dealer and where I take it for maintenance.
The dealership is Larry H. Miller Ford in Salt Lake City. I have been very happy with them and recommend highly. I usually hesitate to 'plug' a business on forums but thought that when we are traveling, a place to go for service might have some value.

Rich...that seems pretty steep.
The Allison filter (from Allison, not GM) is less than $8 and the transmission holds 7.4 quarts of Dextron VI at around $7 a quart, for a max of less than $70 (plus labor if somebody else is going to do it). Must be done every 25k if you tow.
The fuel filter is $30 (from GM, cheaper than the auto supply stores) and should be changed every 12k.

The two fuel filters on the PSD cost $105 installed. The Trany flush with the required "premium transmission fluid" of 15 quarts is $225.60 plus tax and $10 misc. I did the trany flush at 30K miles. Oil changes are also 15 quarts at a time. The dealer puts the sticker on the window saying the oil change is due in 3K miles. However the PSD manual recomends oil change at 5K for towing an 7.5K for normal use. I wish the could put all that fluid back in the fuel tank with diesel over $3 now. It's expensive but it tows so well and the transmission works great, especially with the automatic down shift on hills.

Rich thats about right if they did all filter changes and all. Fuel filters from Ford are $100.00, transmission filter from ford $110.00, so not bad. I have been getting mine from Ford dealer in IN lots cheaper then take my filters to them for them to use. They really don't like it but the charger too much for filters. Same fuel filter at dealer 100 bucks from Ford dealer in IN $48.00, oil filter less than 20 from them my dealer wanted 50 bucks too high.Check them out http://www.powerstrokeshop.com/
